He/she rolled the red light to keep up with the Nomad! :)
Notice the cool cars parked on the right? Woodie, Plymouth Fury.....etc.

I was there during this time and cruised the strip and Hollywood Blvd quite often.

  5. Thank you,I enjoyed the ride. HRP

  6. We used to hit this place when I was in high school in the late '50's. Went to Pandora's coffee house to watch the beatniks.

  7. Very cool. Is that the place next door to the Whisky?

  8. Yep: Pretty fun stuff.

  9. Can't remember what else was there, but I remember the place was referred to as Pandora's Box. The first time we went, we didn't know exactly where it was so we asked a couple local girls on the street where is Pandora's Box? You can probably guess the answer we got......

  10. Oh man! I want that F-100 Phone (I think) Company truck!

  11. I thought exactly the same thing. Those old Bell trucks were nice.

Cruising like that is still possible (minus running the red light) today...in that section of the Strip. Even on the weekends. Just not in the evenings.

Check the serial number on the lower left corner - looks like it came from Getty Images. Should be a downloadable version there.

  14. Must have been a pretty wild neighborhood back in the day.

  15. The women that cut us off at the light in the white T Bird said she loves me! Somebody roaming the street wants me, would you please turn the car!? Have you no heart!

  16. Whenever I'm in LA I drive through there -- can't even tell you why.

My son and I just did the same. He lived right there for 5 years a few years ago.

  19. Funny how hot rodders invariably have a great love of history, too. The two seem to go hand in hand.

From 1944 to 1951, my folks (and I) lived on Cory Avenue in West Hollywood, 1 1/2 blocks North of Sunset. The point at which the video ends is EXACTLY at the corner of Cory; it's the street running off screen to the right. An interesting little Memory Lane trip for me.

So, based on the Jan and Dean lyrics , this video ends at "Dead Mans Curve"?

  23. Great reference! This video ends near Sunset and Doheney. Dead Man's Curve is barely a mile farther on Sunset. I don't know this but the curve was reportedly changed after Mel Blanc had a bad crash there.
