If I would quit driving it maybe I would be getting things done. After the Custom Car Revival I noticed that I had some rear quarter issues. I was going to blame the Indy bi-pass but I had rust issues and not just busted up bondo. After tearing in to it I'm surprised that I got back home with them in tack...... I called Dustin to see if he would be interested working on my Merc. At the time he seemed excited, Dustin is very talented with a welder and torch and wont shy away from too many projects. I'm very thankful that we have such a talented Kat within our club.

Dustin's '49 Merc is in the background.

Fortunately I had bought this parts car years ago. It was a great donor.

I'm going to make a few changes while we are at it. Removing the Ford skirt chrome and the bubble skirts and most likely will run the stock '51 Skirts. This will clean up my body line. Also will be running some side chrome.... I will post more updates s soon as we make more progress. Hope to have it rapped up by the Starbird show in Tulsa but if not, it will be ready for the Round Up.

    Happy Trails, Mick

  2. Looks good so far. I am glad you are switching your skirts I have never been a fan of bubble skirts they just never made sense to me.

    Great pics!

The hood and doors have nicely radiused corners.
Would it be a good idea to do the same to the trunk at this time?

    Wowza, that's some major surgery!
Seeing ongoing repairs, updates, and upgrades on a complete car like yours is always a reminder that nothing on my car ever has to stay the way it is forever. Go, man, go! (Looking forward to seeing the new version in May.)

The driver's side is tracked in place and waiting to be welded. Now Dustin is working on the passenger side. I'm honored that he is doing the kustom work. If your looking for someone, I'd give him a call.

I will be close to you when we go back to Indy for the Custom Car Revival. You should come down and hang out with us. I would love to see your Merc in person.

  20. How have I missed this thread? Looking good! You are making way more progress than me. I spent two days just mounting my spots…something I would have thought would have taken a whole lot less time. Is it going to be ready for Tulsa in two weeks? Impressive. I thought I was going to be doing good to get mine back together before May for the SK. You guys are showing me just how slow I work. LOL

Don't know if we will make Starbirds but we should be able to make the Texas Thaw in March. 10952062_922099307808322_6084063473260422367_o.jpg

Dustin has a lot of welding to look forward to... I'm sure glad and thankful the Kat likes to weld.

I hope you realize there are child labor laws on the books. He looks a little young. When it comes to you, nothing surprises me. I think you got your moneys worth out of the parts car.
