Well I'm in the process of repainting my 54 caddy fleetwood . Really trying to have it ready for the roundup in Austin. I'll be going with a deep emerald green(shiny of course). With it being a more door, I'm trying to keep the modifications to a minimum, I don't want it to get to goofy looking. So far its pretty stock other than I lowered it 3in. Cadillacs are meant to be a classy car and there emblems and badges look great, but I would love to smooth out the hood and trunk while in the middle of prepping the car. I guess I just don't want to regret welding up the holes on this thing. All my emblems are in excellent shape so using them wouldn't be an issue. Just can't make up my mind . What do you fellas think?? Shave them or keep them??? Here's some pics

I would leave them if they are in good shape.

Try some tin foil and water first. You might be surprised.

I say off. I don't know what you're gonna do with tin foil.

  8. If it's just a lowered stocker, is it really a custom? Off with the badges......

I think he meant to polish up the rest of the chrome & bumpers.

Do it! I have a 55 Buick and once I saw one with some of the chrome removed I knew I had to do it...
Decide what chrome defines the car and leave that.

I think it's a mistake to let others decide what you like, but here's what I like: It's a stock, 4 door sedan. It'll never look like anything other than what it is, and that's not a bad thing. Leave the emblems, and the Cadillac script. It looks classy, the car makes a statement, I think it's stronger with the script and ornamentation

X2! These Caddy sedans have an elegance that cannot be improved by customizing...and that's a rare attribute among production automobiles. A little lower to the ground wouldn't hurt, but the rest of it? Leave it alone.

  15. As you said, the cars are a class act as is, on mine I added a couple of subtle stripes to accentuate the body lines.

Matt ...they have to stay !
The emblems on a 54 are perfect and add to the overall elegance of the Cadillac brand

Well guys, all the opinions are greatly appreciated! I guess I'll paint the car and put them back on, just to see how it jives with the green paint. I guess I can always shave the hood and trunk later if I don't like them. Benefits of working in a bodyshop...free paint materials
I will post pics of the progress in the next week or so

Other than the bumpers that era Caddy is not really a chrome boat. I dont think removing the badges will make that much difference. The gold hood badge says I'm a Cadillac, move aside. Sadly, without the badges most people could nt identify it.

Most of the time, a car without without the chrome/badging kills it for me. I still may like the car, but it would be so much nicer. It's part of the car, they just sort of become too plain without them. A blob.
Yes, there are a few that make it look good, but that's a huge part of their design.
    Just my opinion.

decisions, decisions. i say debadge it. first time I did my 61 I left everything on it, wouldn't have had to repaint the whole car if I just took them off the first time. easier to drill holes later if you want to put them back on. there's enough other stainless and chrome on it to keep it classy. your choice in the end.
