I am confused as to what year rear end I have. I am Not sure what vehicle it came out of. Every chart I have looked at is not helping, here are my measurements: inside flange to flange, 55 3/8". Perch-perch center, 46". Axles, 30 3/8", open diff., 742 case. Every measurement gives me a different year and body. my measurements were taken with my trusty tape measure . Any help?
what partsdawg said......and 8 3/4 mopar rear ends go back into the 50's....my 56 currently out of my Fury......
I'm only really concerned because of brake hardware. They are 11x 2 1/2, however, while some hardware, wheel cyl., etc., crosses years and body type, some don't. FYI, this rear will be going under a 52 Plymouth.
If your measuring over top of the "hump" with your tape measure, your measurement could be askew. Axle length and center case # are the only 2 things your sure of, and nothing says the center is original to the housing. Axle length adds up to over 60", so that will pretty much eliminate anything older then 70, and 74 was suppose to have been the last year for the 8 3/4. Given the measurements of the axle length, and the spring perch center to center, your looking at a 70-74 E body, with a different center section. I think I would be getting 11x 2 1/2" brakes parts for an e body if the brake shoe size is an option. Usually the choice in brakes for Mopar was 9" or 10" or 11". I suspect most 11" brake stuff between 70 and 74 will interchange. Gene
