End of today as I must venture out into the world for tonight, but aside from afew little imperfections in weld ill fill n sand back, the A and B pillars are pretty much done inside and out, doors done and a little more around the coupe window, then it's sailplane time!
nice work...would love to make a fiberglass mould of the roof for my roaster......can pay for your time..ill do all the work.....0414066155
I'd have to agree. Safety first, when you cut and grind you should be wearing ear protection and a face shield over the safety glasses. And welding with bare arms in a T shirt is just plain stupid. And the shorts need to go also. There really isn't a much nicer way to say it. For that type of work all exposed skin should be covered and appropriate gauntlet welding gloves also. Bare arms, legs and hands good grief man.
Thanks for the concern fellas but it was only afew tacks, I'm an aluminum fabricator by trade, and we Mig our Ali, so it's even hotter than steel, I'm well aware of the dangers. What you didn't see in the picture was the copious amounts of sunscreen I put on before I start.
On a brighter note I'm finished with the A and B pillars, doors and little coupe windows, and have been on the left hand side sailplane for the last few hours. Never in my life had I had to use a dolly and hammer for more than 10 minutes, let alone hand file a surface... But I'm learning quickly and am pretty happy with the way it's coming out! Still chasing perfection Before I started; 2hours in;
Well after a little error, abit more welding, then more n more metal finishing, I have one sailplane that's almost done! The bottom weld needs to be removed, but the rest is 95% Hollywood...
At the days end, but got the other sailplane to the same point, so Saturday will involve cleaning up the bottom weld of both sailplanes, and then slap some clear on it
Cheers mate. Well today is the 2nd last day of my holidays, so I had aimed for this as D day. All the was left to do was clean up the welds around the base of the sailplane and body swage line. After a tiny bit if sanding, 1mm cutter to give me the hard point and then a whole lot of hammer, dolly and filing, they played the game. After this I gave the rest a light file in any high spots, then got afew coats of clear on it and she's pretty much done! Pretty much as in I've still got to do the 3 rear interior window moulds, the A pillar covers and also clean up the weld on the inside of the A pillars in the door jam, but aside from that stick a fork in it! Well it's been a hell of a time the last 14 days (10 spent working on this...). To say I'm nearly, but not even, 27 and chopped a Model A is pretty freaking awesome. Not only that, to challenge yourself to a bare metal chop, on your first chop is something even better... Enough talk here's some photos... How it looked at the start of the day.. Getting through them, redoing the body line... And then all done! With a very happy me!
Love the chop!! Great metal work you do there. Nice body also. And you will love all that HP, you will keep wanting more!
Thanks to everyone for the appreciation!! Updates are going to be a little slower now as it was back to the daily grind today, a nice and sunny 43'C to welcome back work for another year! Oh well, hopefully more progress this weekend!
Great work mate. Have to make the journey over to "Chopped" when she's done... Makes me want to Chop mine..Haha...(subsribed) Regards Dave.
Your chop looks great, you've done an exceptional job for a first timer. Certainly was a stinker today, 6th hottest January day on record today. Lucky for me I went to the beach and then stayed in with the AC on full. Look forward to seeing this one finished, Hot Summer Nights ?? End of Feb, check the Cranksters web page, best show of the year. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Cheers mate. Yeah man that's the plan, one day get over there!! Cheers mate, oooo very jealous! I had the welder in hand in the arvo, wasn't too pleasant at all!! I'm gonna try make it out to hot summer nights with the old boy n mrs, as to what car I'll be riding in it'll probably be the mrs new pink '58 Biscayne!
By the way, it is not a 29 5 window, rather it is a 29 Coupe. All Model A coupes have 5 windows, the 3 or 5 window designation is for the 32 or 35-36 coupes.
Cheers mate, you're not the first to inform me of this , but I do like to say 5 window coupe even though it's not necessary
An awesome job for sure, that body line looks like nothing happened. Woulda had me very nervous... Good work Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hey , no problem. I like your build so far. It's just that even though you like saying it, ( 29 5 window) when you do so it makes you sound less than knowledgeable about what you have and are building.
