Would a vertex mag ever be seen on a street/strip car in the early 60's?

I can pick up one of the faux ones with electronic ignition. I think they look cool, but would they be an unrealistic part to put on a car that would see street driving back then?

It was done. It was not common but it wasn't uncommon either.

Is there alternative parts for Vertex points at $175 and condensers for $35?

pretty easy to find an old Mallory dual point, but you want one with the old two piece cap, and the caps are kind of expensive these days since they've been out of production for a while. Points still work, you know. My avatar shows a car with a dual point on it's way to a 9.96 run, and it has almost 4000 miles on it since last summer. And if you get the tach drive version, you can run a neat old cable drive tach as well.

There is a new version of a Vertex with electronic ign componants coming out this year. The guy has been flogging the design and has made quite a pile of scrap ones till he came up with the final version, The one at the bottom of that pile is whats been out there for years.

hei magnetos were never used in the early sixties.
I'd suggest you do a search here on the fake magnetos before making your investment.

I've been running real magnetos on the street for years with no issues.

The kind of car it would seem appropriate to put a mag in, at least to me.

The pics I've got a vehicles from back then that have that type of mag on the street were like that.

    Few and far between regardless.

Maybe what I should have said is the current crop of "fake" magnetos have their issues and what I have read on other threads and those are on the bottom of the pile. If one really wants to be hardcore down to the cotter key and build a history correct hot rod with a honest to God vertex-- do it and will work fine. The new units of "Fake" Vertex's built by my customer are more refined (proto-type is still running on the bench-3 months now) and also compatible to those people who want to cross-over to EFI/Hilborn stack injection (Hilborn will be a dealer)
