To me it looks like a larger 1 ton panel truck that has been modified , as it still has its twin rear doors. I have seen 3 38/39 buses for sale before and all have a big / square backs to them ...

  6. Can't say I have ever seen one before but it does appear that the body was modified at the factory, the passenger windows look like they have been stamped instead of just cut out.

Just a suggestion but you should try and buy it. HRP

    That is too cool.

  9. Same body style without windows,,possibly the school bus in question was a special order for a small community back in the day and the windows were added at the factory or added by a company that built buses. HRP

The side window look simple, like they were hammer formed over a wood form. Siebert used to make the Ford Ranger, a Ford panel truck with window by forming the window opening using a wooden form. Other coach work businesses did the same type of work to make ambulances and other types of commercial vehicles. I can't see how an old time body man wouldn't be able to do the same thing in a local shop. Many rural communities would have buy an old panel truck or large sedan and use it to transport students to school. I talked to one guy in my wife's church who said he drove such a vehicle for that purpose when he was 17 years old, something no one would allow today.

  12. That is cool! I wouldn't mind having one of those!

What's fair money on it. It has a frame but that's it.

  14. Haven't seen one like that before but I like it. Usually I see the panel with a jagged cutout and a camper window scabbed in..

See if a G would bring it home? That'd be a safe offer to me. Good luck buying it--

How hard are the rear fenders to come by?

  17. Is there evidence it had seating in the rear? My first thought was ambulance. I start a a few hundred and see if that would by it. Its pretty unique. Tim Just caught your post as to the price. I'd have to pass for sure on that. Maybe why he still has it.

there is a mid to ate 30's Chevy panel up here in NW Montana at a museum that is built exactly the same way. It served as a school bus for a small rural school in Eastern Montana I believe.

You can still read the school on the top of the cab. So I'm sure it was a bus. I know I probably won't ever see another is the only reason I'm even thinking about it.

  20. Tell him to scare up the front clip and back fenders- then it'd be worth 2 but it's pretty bare as it is.
So, while not worth 2 to me, if it's the car you Have to have, sure 2 grand. Where are you gonna get a better/cheaper one?

Here in my area you see a lot of 60s suburbans that had the same purpose.

The clip I can find pretty easy. It's those back fenders I'm worried about.

  23. Wow, that's greatness. Love to have it.

  24. send me one of those front clips will ya? I need one for my pickup... :)
