Hi, I'll be spending the weekend in Chattanooga and I'll have some free time for sightseeing. I've never been there, so if anybody can suggest some things to do there, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Dan
Honest Charlies, Coker Tire , the Towing and Recovery Museum, the Incline Railway the Chattanooga Choo Choo.
There is a great Civil War museum in the city and loads of history on the the importance of this city during that war. Pretty interesting....and humbling...stuff. Google the Chamber of commerce and I'm sure they'll have lots more to check out. Other than that, look for the closest Cracker Barrel.
I was at the Towing museum a few years ago and it was awesome. Coker tire and Honest Charlie's was great. I was there for a reliability run for AACA/HCCA back in '08 and the Coker family were gracious hosts.
The Tennessee Aquarium is great, especially if you like fish. If you have kids with you they will love it. I think there is a park down at the river that has an old bridge for pedestrians to walk out over the river.
They pretty well got everything covered. ^^^ Great town. F Y I There is a swap meet just east of Nashville on Saturday.
I think American Pickers has another location down there also. That's in Nashville. Couple of hours away.
I have been to the swap meet for the last two years. Good junk, good prices, all indoors. Dont know if I will drive the f-1 or the dually, 80% rain and cold
Yeah I went once.Good way to kill a cold Saturday. Not very big.... but its car parts/cars and more STUFF that I don't need. wished it opened a little earlier than 10:00 a m tho....
Tennessee Valley Railroad and Museum is excellent if you like trains. 6 mile ride that goes through the Missionary Ridge tunnel that was built in the 1850s, steam power on weekends and in the summer. Chickamauga Battlefield about 10 mile south of Chattanooga.
The famous riverboat Delta Queen is docked on the river. The Tennessee Valley Railroad museum offers steam excursions. http://www.tvrail.com/pages/missionary-ridge-local
