Hot Rods Winter time means tear down: 1934 Ford upgrades

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Dec 22, 2014.

  1. Well even though it is still about 50 here (waaaay above average), it is winter and that means it's time to do some more work on the ol 34 Ford. It needs a clutch that does not chatter, swapping to an original Edelbrock slingshot intake and I also want to swap the oil pan to one that will accept an oil drain return line so I can run a filter. While the engine is out it snow balled into putting a little color on the firewall, putting a rear view mirror on my windshield frame, swapping front axle and wishbone, and cleaning everything and giving the chrome a polish. I am also louvering the hood. Just a lot of little stuff to do, but it sure made a mess! I'll post back as I get it back together.

I'm looking forward to your updates,Chris.
My roadster is "sleeping" and will get some upgrades and repairs as spring gets closer. Nothing like what you are doing, though.

  5. Yep. I've gotten a head start and done much more than I thought I would at this point. Not sure what I'll do when it gets really bad cold out. Looking forward to working on the top and another round of blocking. Your pretty deep into your car, I'll keep an eye on you. tim

  6. Thank goodness here in the South we can drive our hot rods year round. HRP

Sounds like a great plan Chris. I just wish I had a reasonably comfortable garage to work in so I could get something done.

  8. Time well spent.

  9. Hey Dave! Not sure how many louvers but I know what configuration I want (strait down the hood, not angled). Replacing the axle with another old chrome one that had better chrome and re chroming a wishbone. Should sit the same. Thanks a lot, you know I love your car :) hope to see you soon!

  10. My garage is cramped and not heated at all. I hope to get the paint work done before the cold comes back!!

Funny how that happens isn't it? I once turned running out of gas into restoring my dash and having my interior done.

  23. image.jpg It's got a few runs that I need to sand and respray but I'm pretty happy how it turned out. I have not painted anything out of a gun in years.

    I like the color.
Any problem with the Edmunds intake?
Planning to use one on mine...;-)

  25. I actually just had it sitting on there, I sold the PM-7 that I had on it in favor of the slingshot. So I can't help us there

    OK no worries :)

  27. Chris,

That's a good-looking top and set of side panels. Where'd it come from? Sewn from scratch or maybe an LB package? i'm working on a similar roadster and will be scouting out tops soon.

    Thanks,

  28. I had the top custom made by my friend Paul who owns Cedar Dale Upholstery. The windshield is chopped so obvious the irons and bows needed modified as well
