loking for pics of tow trucks (wreckers) from the 40's and 50's

 

earl schiebs best freind Roger has a bitchin 54 GMC wrecker with a HOT straight six,,,i dont have a pic,but maybe mike(earl schieb) will post a pic

I had the pleasure of owning this for a while. I actually towed my 30 pickup to the coop scales to get weigh slip for title. Didn't go very fast and the brakes were worse than bad. Oh if only we could keep everything forever. Steve

 

Why? Got a super underground project? Don't ask me why, but these pics remind me of that evil ass Autocar rig from "Duel."

1952 GMC, Holmes model W35 Wrecker, I recently purchased.

 

why dig up this thread when there is a far better one?

 

Tell more of the far better one oh manyoldcars.....I like old wreckers too!

The truck from Duel was a mid 50s Peterbilt 281, not an Autocar.

 

Here is a couple of photos of my Dads tow truck. Its a 52 Ford F3.
The first photo is sometime in the early 50s.
The second one is current.

I think it was a 60 or 61 Peterbilt narrow nose.
