20141130_091233.jpg Not part of the engine build but earlier this week this 8-3/4 aluminum carrier arrived from Mopar Performance. I'm going to start out with 3.55 gears, aluminum spool, and drilled axles.

  2. Holeee shit man. I WOULD LOVE to see success with this. It's one thing to cruise blown flatty'....but to ride the boost envelope as you pursue......pure rocket porn. 900 hp in a flathead is new to me.....and I would be happy if you hit anything close to half or over......so OF COURSE I am subscribed !! Good luck with everything.....wallet especially.

Ya, the cost is why it's taking me so long to complete this project. I have a spreadsheet of every expense associated with it and it's not something I want my wife to see. Custom parts are 5x the cost and everything has been custom to this point.

The girdle won't hurt but not a necessity...front crank support is!

Why do you chosse so much overlap with a supercharged engine?
You will bleed of a lot of pressure

HotRodMicky. From what I understand (which isn't much), overlap isn't as important in a supercharged application because scavenging isn't as necessary. I talked to Larry about this and from what I remember, he said it was in order to take advantage of the 180 degree crank, which is all about moving the exhaust out of the engine.

I had the crank snout elongated a few inches to accommodate the pulleys and some left over for a front crank support, which I'll need to figure out how to fabricate.

What will firing order be with a 180° crank, is there choices? I have heard 180° cranks can not be balanced as well as a 90° ones, any truth to that?

The 180 firing order is 1-8-3-6-4-5-2-7. No real balancing and they'll rattle the teeth out of your head. Man, I can't wait.

Thanks for the firing order; I've been telling people that the order goes bank to bank and I'd just get a strange look..How much rpm?

Great build!! I agree on the girdle, or at least steel main caps. I ran some made by Wilcap years ago, had to reshape the front of the oil pan to get it to fit around the caps, but ran 40 runs with Ardun heads (no blower, though), but on almost straight nitro and never broke the welded stroker...I don't know if there are still Wilcap steel mains out somewhere on the used market or in someone's garage, but I really liked them.

I'll be using a set of aftermarket Pro-Gram Engineering main caps. I have drilled the center main that will have an oil line feeding the bearing from the bottom. It's something my father in law has been doing on all his racing flathead engines.

Marry Christmas to me! The 180 degree (4.25" stroke) crank showed up on my doorstep yesterday courtesy of Moldex. The reason for the longer snout is to accommodate a pulleys for the supercharger, fuel pump, oil/vacuum pump, and crank support. In the one pic you can see it compared to an original Norden crank. 20141216_145347.jpg 20141216_145551.jpg

Generally you want to keep that "stuff" on the end of the crank as close to the front cover as possible. The blower drive and the blower pulleys should be compact. The blower crank hub, for a crank support, has an extended snout that fits into a bearing that is mounted in a plate. The plate spans the front of the motor. (Chrysler concept)

I'll have to figure out the design and have something fabricated for a crank support. I'm not running a big blower cog belt for the centrifugal supercharger. I'm going to try Jones Racing 1" radius tooth HTD pulleys. Since I'll have room, I don't see the need for a crank hub and can just install the bearing on the crank snout. It's just a matter of aligning and securing the bearing in the front crack support plate.

Well I've been sidetracked for the past year. My wife's son wanted to start bracket racing so I pulled a 63 Dodge Dart out of my father-in-laws field last January and re-built it. Still running the slant 6. That took 6 months. My wife took a year off of racing because of a scary experience she had on the track. Well, she took a ride down the strip in the Dart and decided she wants to race again but in a rear engine car. She doesn't want the engine in front of her anymore. So right now I'm building her a RED with a blown alky flathead. I'm hoping to have it done by June then get back to my project.

This is the blower setup I'm purchasing from Luke Balogh in Canada.

  23. I've been hearing bits and pieces of this story over with the Nitro for lunch bunch. Thought I'd put my Finger in the mix just to keep track of the story from the other side.
