Here's my dad with his '37 Ford wagon , which I still have today. In one picture he's working on it in the early '60's. The other picture was taken in FLA in 1950 I can be seen with my Father.

    My Pop's 40 Ford. Twin spots....twin antennas....dual fog lights.
Flathead V8. He cut up a drive line to make tail pipes. He said they were quite loud!

  3. We were too poor to afford a camera so this is the only photo I could find of any of my dads cars. It was a 49 Ford coupe. Small back seat but as you can see, I didn't take up much space. I remember I liked the car. He took good care of it. I can remember that it had loud glasspacks on it and it had the first suicide knob I remember on the steering wheel.

My Dad's brand new Ford with my Sister and oldest Brother in it. Peabody, Ma. -He sold the house, bought this car and a new Airstream trailer and spent the Summer traveling across the country with my Mom and older Brother & Sister. The Ford was worn out by the time they got to California. He bought a new car out there for the trip home.

The mild custom '52 Ford my dad built during his senior year in high school in '53, so it was still practically a new car:
Nosed, decked, shaved handles, de-chromed, cut coils, custom straight grill bar, faux-Continental kit...I don't recognize the wheel covers dad 52.jpg dad 57.jpg

The '57 convertible was purchased brand new in early '58...he had actually gone to look at new Studebakers, and saw this convertible in the back of the lot at the Chevy dealership across the street...he got a deal since they were trying to blow out all the '57 models: 283/4-bbl w/3-speed & overdrive, dual deck antennas, dual exhaust, skirts, Continental kit...
...we moved to the West Coast, (Washington), in summer of '59, where he bought a Texaco gas station, the '57 originally had a black top, but he had it changed to a white top by the upholstery shop next door to the Texaco station...he also removed the mufflers, and welded up a straight pipe exhaust system

DSCF3860.JPG This being Veterans Day and a Dad's old car thread I have a two for one picture. That's my Dad with his 40 Chevy convert in 1943 while he was home on leave. Dad turned 18 in 1940. He had worked since he was 14 and saved every penny towards a new car the same year he graduated high school. In Jan. 1940 he some how had the money for the convert and also got a loan and bought a new 1940 Chevy dump truck to haul coal and any thing else he could make a buck on. He drove the truck to school after running it all night, he told me if it wasn't for going to school he never would have gotten any sleep LOL! After graduating in the spring of 1940 he worked the truck until 1942 when he went into the Army Air Corps where he ended up being a tail gunner instructor until the war ended. I guess there was never a picture of the dump truck as it was sold before he left for boot camp. The convert was traded in on a 46 Buick Roadmaster in 1947 and he owned nothing but Buicks until the day he died in 1988.
When I went in the Army in 191 the only advise he gave me was " Don't do anything to stand out from any body else, shave every day and don't piss off a drill Sgt. Good advise!! DSCF3860.JPG
