It would have been hard for me to have scored a perfect body to start with. For $250 I couldn't let this baby go. It leaves me the perfect canvas to create what I want to and not feel terrible about slicing up an excellent body. There is a wild amount of satisfaction I feel when able to create something with my own hands. Aside from my English wheel, I don't own fancy tooling. Just trying to keep the old way alive a little while longer.

Working the panel above the rear window.

It's a ways from being ready, but it's looking like I meant to build it anyway.

Ok you hooked me on this one. That sedan was in about the same shape as my 31 Victoria was when I got it. I'll be following along to see how you get this done.

Things lined up nicely and the original corner was welded to the new panel.

This picture doesn't do any justice. With no support to hold the front and back together, there is some sag. They line up damn close.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1415150709.316990.jpg

The curve of the body was a little tough to get "pooched out". It's also really close and my next step will be getting the top to meet up with the window surround.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1415150802.133249.jpg

That's as far as I was able to get today.

I only get to work on the car on my lunch break and a night here and there.

The roof section is coming along really nicely. The flat top was worked out to resemble more of a deuce lid. Just need to finish welding the seams then planish things smooth. Once the top is done work on the rear piece and the window surround will be done. Nice to see things taking shape.

Nice save, not many of us could bring that one back I think. Very ambitious. Look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Smoothed up a bit more. Ended up with a graceful curve in the roof like I wanted. Now I can fill in the easy parts and have a complete panel soon. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1416339978.320901.jpg

The passenger side panel is pretty well done for now. The rear window area is in pretty good shape considering the big dent. It was cut out and put in our rust removal dip. The bottom quarter on this side of the car was all but gone, so it was removed too. The body supports were in the same condition so a few pieces of conduit were put in to stiffen things up. The body came off today. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417810196.365302.jpg

What a dirty mess!!! Finally things can be cleaned up and not look like such a destroyed mess. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417810262.447787.jpg

Tonight I am going to build a body jig to finish the rest of the body work and make sure everything is square.

Made a simple jig to mount the body on. It's all square to itself so it can be used as a basis to triangulate points on the body. I kept everything inside the perimeter of the body so I wouldn't be tripping over anything. Need to get to Hazard Freight and pick up a few dolly wheels to mount below to make it mobile. Looks like this one is in good hands to be brought back from the dead. I've been here a long time and I'm still amazed at what is transformed from what should be dumpster material. Keep post your progress.
