So, they dont make a replacement quarter for a '64 fairlane. Title is marked on the white one, And plan was to move parts to the blue one, So had to check condition of the quarter. Lots of filler probably done by the guy that put it back together after my accident. Was decided that the metal is good, dents ok, rust no. So here is the white one ready for her last drive. And dropped off for surgery Sad.. Took the other off while we were at it, someone will need it i'm sure. Ready for the red car.. Headed back home He tossed it on for a pic to make me feel better..
Plan at this point was to leave the hood closed on the red car, but you know how things go...we decided to pull the motor / trans so we can do the engine compartment body color...
Started looking at the inner fenders, and firewall and decided to do some changes. Inner fenders had already been modified for the Mustang II front end.. So... This!
Rear end dropped off for paint, Satin black please.. New inner fenders Mock up Makin them permanent Filled the column mount too Adding stiffener plates down the front frame rails Had to build this whole area where the steering box used to be to have a flat inner fender Inner fenders welded in
What gauge of steel are you using on your inner fenders? I've seen where some guys are adding a front bar on each side of the car running from the firewall to the front frame area, some curving down and welding into the frame, some just continuing straight and welding/bolting into the core support. These front ends are really compromised when the shock towers are removed. Boxing the frame should help considerably.

So while we were mocking up the fenders, we decided that we didnt like the random spacing on the bolts.. So the holes in the fenders were filled and the flanges made twice as thick And an even pattern put in

Funny, there has been times thru this that I'm suprized my wife has not made me bleed like that. White car came home, so it was time to take everything we need to make the blue one go. Hoping to make it a driver without too much investment, Would like it to appear as a hot rodded car would in the late 60's (without too much money added to make it look that new) Anyway, gotta take apart the white one first Back in the shop Here we go Pulled the heater, wiper assys, wiring harness (all of it) This will get cleaned up, need to work on the tranny a bit as the mount is broken from the crash in 2000 Fresh air vent, wanting to add it to the passenger side of the red car as it has an aftermarket heater and is loosing the vent This is where the fresh air vent goes on the drivers side Auto brake assy removed Complete harness (unmodified) Up onto the trailer (figure i can pull the suspension on the trailer then just set her on the deck) On stands
Been a bit since i even looked at the blue one, may as well pull it out and see what we got Fairly original under the hood Big hole in the floor, broken auto column, clutch pedal, and a homemade floor patch Battery tray area looks fair Big gouge out of the spring tower on the drivers side Floor patch Heavy rust on the brace above the windshield, (about 2" gone all the way across) Put on the wheels from the white car cause they hold air.. This pretty much has me up to date. I need to finish off the white car so it can get off of my trailer. I will cut off the roof so i can take whatever bracing i need for the blue one. Rearend gas tank, exhaust and the complete front suspension still need to come off to be put on the blue one. I have the kit from crites to trim the shock towers and notch the drivers side for the inner headlight tubes, I think I'll use that for the blue one.
Handy Dandy HF strut compressor works pretty well on a 64 fairlane. Other side 3" Drop coils ready for the Blue one. Fresh gas tank removed from the white one, also for the blue one. Dropping the rear end. I had put on fresh HD leaves, and it has a fresh rebuilt 3.00 open carrier in the 8" with new bearings / seals. Pulled the exhaust complete, it will go in the blue one too. Done back here.
Dropping the front end out, this was all rebuilt a few years back, poly bushings, big sway bar.. Cut out the tranny tunnel for patches for the blue car Got news that my dad has Esophogus Cancer, Was nice to work on the white car together as we bought it together back in '85 Took the center of the dash, someone will want a factory radio mount im sure..(I bought one) Dad laughing about who got dirtier The front part of the roof looks way better on the white car then the blue.. I'm takin it Ready for scrap

So been awhile since I posted, I have some progress to report on the red car.. Welded up every hole we could find in the floors.. Picked up all the suspension parts from the painter, just a nice coat of satin black.. Spent alot of time making mustang fastback hinges fit a 64 fairlane...(they werent even close.) New fusebox.. Got the rearend back into the car with steel CalTracs blocks, feels much more solid. Putting the front back together.. Its been a year and a half since this car had wheels on it.. Back on the ground..
Got the AC mounted on some pretty cool mounts, had to build some boxes for the defroster tubimg.. Heater, AC plumbing will be out in the wheelwell.. AC condensor and plumbing going in so we can have all the holes done before paint.. Replacing the gravel guard mount and putting in a lip for future uphoulstery work.. Hopefully we are going to be ready for paint soon, Its been awhile.
Update time, really has not been much going on since my dad died, but here is some. Got the new Corvette MC set into place and the new stainless lines ran.. (Had to put the motor in to make sure everything cleared ok) Random engine bay pics...First ones with the motor in and the metalwork all done.. How she has been sitting for the last 6 mo or so.. Setting up the shifter, I dont like it yet, too close to the dash, but we are working on it. Drive.. Park..

Thanks for the comments on my Dad. Went over to check on the car yesterday, here are a couple new pics.. This shows the battery tender mount, it has a sealed plugin under the car, just run an extention cord to it and the car is charging. Also shows the battery cutoff, and the new bracing that we had to do on the hinge mounts, as some flex was noticed from the big cylinders required to lift that long trunk lid. The long cylinders.. Set my new stock style wheel in place to confirm shifter placement.. Trim back on to make sure everything fits right before paint, and to check AC line fitment. See the condensor in front of the new radiator..
Been so long since ive posted, but here we go. Shifter is mocked up.. Picked up a tranny cooler.. Workin AC lines smore.. The Heater lines will go right thru the frame Ac parts in the front of the wheelwell.. Inside of the framerail.. Motor had to be in while we were doing that.. New patch panel for the trans tunnel.. Speaker box, battery, and all the bracketry for enclosing the trunk.. On board trickle charger mounted.. Playing with the trunk lock.. Battery cutoff.. More trunk lock stuff.. Metal guy sent me this gif.. told me it was time to get to paint..
Looks like at some time in this cars life there was a mirror on the fender.. Motor is out again.. Giving the car the last lookover.. Don't remember if I showed the new factory wheel, also has a 4 speed column adapter, (no shifter up there).. Trunk all cleaned out.. A look at the engine bay.. Dash trim.. First time outside in 3 years.. Back in the garage, on the trailer, ready for the run to paint..
Had to pull this plate off of a door from my white Fairlane then I have all the parts needed.. Back outside, and its time to go.. Off we go! And she is in the little door there at the college.. They are doing final paint on a 65 Chevelle today and tomorrow, should be ready to start sanding on my car after that.
