Dear God; a high school buddy of mine went off one day talking about a "Ford firing order" cam for his SBC. Guaranteed to make 10% more power, Hahaha. Oy vey on the "RV Cam", hahaha!
Hahaha, I told him that a Crane Cams decal and "barefoot" gas pedal would give him at least 15%. Anyone mention Ed Winfield's "404" yet?
I can recall a "Midnight Special" but don't remember who made it. I have one of the Crane Fireballs in my 56 Chevy.
Actually the proper name is knockenweller. However I have found in my short life that the fancier the name , the brighter the packaging the worse the performance. don
I always wondered what Legerra meant in Spanish. What about lunati Voodoo. Comp Cams Thumper, Motha Thumper, and Big Motha Thumper. Wolverine Blue Racer.
My B.B.C. has a Crower 0100 "Monarch". Not really sure where that name came from. Possibly Muhammad Ali " Float like a Butterfly (Monarch) and sting like a Bee". ? ? ? VR&C.
Leggera is actually Italian. meaning "light" [as in weight] The Term Superleggera is actually a Coach building term when they draped a skin over a lightweight tubular frame originating in the 1930's Most GT cars of the 60's used this technique [Lambos Ferraris and Astons] which was usually Alloy over steel creating over priced rust buckets The term Superleggera is actually a trademark owned by Carrozzeria Touring, So Isky probably blatantly plagiarised and marketed the name.
In the late 60s Melling offered a 3/4 - Full- and a Super Full Race These were popular with the dirt track guys around here SPEEDY
As a teenager, i put a " full race cam" in my 66 421 HO engine. Three weeks later we pulled it out and put in a " mckellar #7" .
A lot of names from way back when.Remember a lot of the guys where I grew up used to call the Duntov 30 30 a"Winchester". Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
I remember going to our local dealership and for $28 you could get a 098 solid lifter cam for a small block. I dont know but this may have been the Duntov 30-30, as I recall that was the valve setting. .030-.030 stright across. SPEEDY
Many years ago,a local guy advertised his car for sale in the Auto Trader. To spice up the ad he claimed it had a "Whooping Crane Roller Coaster cam with overshoes to prevent camwalk..."
In the 1950's, Crane offered the Whapper, Super Whapper, and Hyper Whapper. Later, the RamSonic line was the premium hard-core race offering. Regards, Chase
isky marketed a flathead cam with mushroom lifters that were held in place with "staples" so they wouldn't rotate--the "constant acceleration" cam.
I like the "4-7 swap" gives a sbc the same firing order as a Y-Block. Just prooving Ford got it right a long time ago.
Are you sure that it wasn't midnight auto cam? Legerra isn't Spanish in Spanish it would La Guerra and would translate to war or the war if you are being literal. Legerra maybe a name in several of the romantic languages but it is no doubt meant to sound like La Guerra. in Hungarian legerra means ledger. OK so much for linguistics 101. next?
First real hot rod cam I ever bought (about 1972) was from the general General Kinetics IIRC, it was called a split pattern cam
