gday kidcampbell, yep you are on the ball. Over there you might call it a 3or 4 inch chop. Over here it's like "Dood have you seen that Caddy ? I swear it's a 4 mattress job!"
O Gday Castirondude, I think you meant . Only real (stoopid) men do bodywork in flip flops. . . haha I hope you guys are all having alook over at Rik Hoving's Custom Car Chronicle. No one on the planet has the detailed knowledge that Rik has ammassed and collated . Before I started tbis build I spent hours studying on his site. It really helped me get a solid direction for how I wanted the build to progress. I cant work on the car for the next few weeks but next job is to find some door handles. I bought some Lincoln buttons but I am not sure they are the look I want now.
looks great ! Thanks for sharing the mattress trick ! hope it works on this side of the earth too !lol!
Had a play tonight and removed the hardtop so I could fabricate the windshield top. Good to see it as a conv again. I also installed bear claw latches earlier in the week. Tomorrow Ihope to weld the header into the hardtop and next will be to get it latching down.
I really dig the car without ( and with!) the top. Beautiful job on the w/s frame too, I'm really pleased to see you take the time to make it look "right". How are you latching the top at the tulip panel? On my (now topless, removable steel top) '59 T'Bird I used hood latches , after seeing aCorvette remove able top that used that style latch. I had a Lebron convert front bow and used those latches at the w /s header. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
working out top lockdown is work in progress. But I looked at a68 Vet and will use a similar technique for the parade boot. for the winshield header i found some stylish ss latches. They don't look too modern which is good.
I found some marine cabinet latches, over- center style same as the w/s latches on my '48 Pontiac convert. These I used on a phantom '41 Chev convertible sedan. Try marine supply sites. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Today is a big day on this build for me. 4months of cutting grinding and banging and finally the major mods are done. This is what the car will look like ,it's shape defined.
Hello CadMad, in one word: J'ADORE!..... your car and what you are do is like a French jewellery, precious and so glam. Bravo!
I have to add that you're killing me here. I want to stop working on my T'Bird and Riviera projects and buy a '39 Cadillac sedan! That car looks like Dick Tracy should step out of the shadows, climb in and speed away. It's fabulous.
Excellent job! A question for you: Are you going to tuck the bumpers in a bit, or make splash aprons?
I hate fake patina, but I'd be tempted to match the new work to the front clip. Just for a season ;-) Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I agree. Looks like a getaway car from a comic book. Absolutely amazing. One of my favorite cars ever.
I still like the idea about removing the headlights and hide them. You could extend the grill back to the grillework on the side panel too.
Great, thanks greybeard! I just spent 6 weeks in therapy to get to a stage where I can say "I won't touch the headlights . . . " and then you do that.
