A little update. The trunk latch is mounted and the inner and outer skin are spot welded together. Getting there slowly but surely! IMG_1555.JPG IMG_1556.JPG IMG_1557.JPG

  4. Nice to see this back on the main page.
Paint for Christmas would be a great gift for yourself.
And would be a nice gift for all your fans.
Keep up the fine work bud, you're gonna be driving this thing next year.

Update. For some reason, the metal of the inner deck lid has become so weak, it is starting to buckle under the pressure of the hinge springs. IMG_1567.JPG IMG_1564.JPG IMG_1565.JPG My guess that it's probably age. So after spot welding and grinding the welds smooth, the rear deck lid still showed movement. Primarily left to right. After consulting with Carlos and Anthony (the two in the picture), we're now going to fabricate a metal plate and weld it between the hinge and the inner structure in order to increase the pressure surface. I hope this will do the trick.

Another small update. In order to create more stability in the rear deck lid, a bent square piece of tubing is now welded in place in the lower end. Also notice the new release latch in place!

The inner structure of the inner deck lid/hinge has received additional strength and will never buckle again!

Thank you exterminator. Now that the painting process is only a month or two away, I've come to grips with the fact that patience is the only option. There's no use in trying to rush yourself, nor others. I've never had a time limit for this project: I've always told people that it will be finished "next year"!

Finally the deck lid is the way it should be. On the lower corners, rubber stoppers are now welded in place to prevent any wobbling during driving and ensuring perfect closing of the deck lid at all times.
