Technical Speedo Rebuild

Rusty is the go to man when it comes to anything speedometer related,he has helped me several times.

BTW,I have a '65 F100 and you insert has inspired me to do some updates. HRP

Got a 60 Caddy with a magnetic drive for the speedo, had the dash out 5 times before I got it right, very frustrating! I can fully understand why you would use someone with experience, and the instructions, and the correct tools for this job. That press tool is sweet, the drive shaft to the needle in the caddy is soldered to the spinning magnet, even the amount of solder you use effects the accuracy.

I'm a freak for gauges and metal dashboards.You're going to be staring at it the whole time you're driving,you might as well like it.It'll make your windshield time much more pleasant

How the hell did you figure out that it was accurate up to the Century mark! You did not break the speed limit now did yah???

 

That certainly seems reasonable. You've got a valuable piece and it's not all that much fun putting your dash in and taking it out each time something isn't quite correct. Seems like a bargain to do the job once and know it'll be right.

I rebuilt my speedo on the 60 Impala, but there was no Jewel to replace.

Note to self: do not try and rebuild an old SW.

Man you got my gears turning. A dash for the Tudor is next up on my things to do list. I already know Elwood but i have a feeling he and i will become great friends in the near future.

What is the paint used on all these old tools, the crinkle black coating, its pictured in the tool that is sitting in the wood case that the guy used to fix your speedo.
