History White Firewalls lets see them!!!

What is the deal with white firewalls on early hotrods? I really like the look but why did they paint them white? Was it to reflect the heat of the motor? I would like to see a few, Im getting ready to paint my roadster and seriously considering painting the firewall white, show some pics and if you know tell us what color of white that you used..................Thanks RP

I have also been contemplating a white firewall and suspension for my coupe. I had painted my grill insert with a gloss white But I think it was to bright. So I am thinking of an off white or cream color now. I would welcome specific color name suggestions. I was looking a rustolleum on the net and there is 4 or 5 different shades but can not really tell the differance in colors by the chips.

 

Personally,I like the white firewalls.

Thanks that's just what I was looking for...........I'm thinking of using an Ivory, what color is your buddy Steve's? I like the wheels too.

 

Why are firewalls white, you ask? Well why are tire sidewalls white?
To repudiate the dirty, grimy look that these parts typically have.
To flaunt one's meticulous attention to detail.
Nothing says CLASS like a white firewall.

 

Believe it or not,my firewall and Steve's are the same color just difference in the lightning...Wimbledon White (Ford Color) HRP

 

Anyone who says "yuck" to a white firewall doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. Not only are they cool, they are traditional.

My Sons is Wimbledon white, and I will probably do the same on my own rpu when the time comes.

I painted the firewall on my 40 plymouth white. I think it was a ford color called colonial white.

 

White firewalls are what I remember from years ago. This is mine- also Wimbledon White. Tom...

 

exactly it was a big thing here on the east coast my dads old nova the WHOLE. underside was painted white it was a dark bronze mettalic (almost black) with a buck-skin vynal top, now on one of those cars you cant really see the white plain as day as on an old coupe, but that was the point to show how meticulous you were with keepin it white

 

I like the Wimbledon white firewalls.
Can't have mine white, due to the ugly brake booster on it. It would stand out like dogs bollocks.
Being black helps hide it.
I think it was possibly started because it looks clean, and makes your engine look good?

Why stop with the firewall ? How about the axle, spring, backing plates, headers, & radius rods . They compliment the firewall & give a nice clean look.
Don't get me wrong ..chrome is great ! White paint is a viable option.

 

I'm going to run a white firewall for two reasons, number 1 I haven't decided on the color the car will be and number 2 I likem.
