Thanks guys....the bed...well let's just say it may have been easier to make one from scratch cause that's basically what I did...

I always hated late model bed swaps that looked like they were an afterthought.....I took a late 90's S10 long bed and cut it into thirds shortening it in front of and behind the wheel...then cut it lengthwise and narrowed it....

The 49' fenders were then grafted into the bed sides...I moved the header panel up 3.5" to wrap the bed around the cab cutting out a filler piece for the top and sides...then topped that with a cold roll wedge on the seem closest to the cab to "ramp" the lines up to the cab...

The stock S10 taillight/fuel door were cut out and patched and the bed floor from a full sized dodge was raised to clear the frame notch and exhaust. A extremely stout framework was fabricated to hold the side opening tonnoe (sp) cover that is raised by non traditional jack screws.

The fuel tank was hidden under the front of the bed...non-trad airbag kit under the rear of the bed....the lip around the top was placed for the tonnoe cover (which is steel) and blank out panels were welded to the interior of the bed smoothing everything out (along with the Italian inspired swept radius corners.)

The final part to remove the S10 feel was reversing the beds belt line and grafting a 1949 cab belt line in the S10 belt lines place...

It was a lot of freakin work...there are pics of the process a few pages back...

    I appreciate the compliment...

You do know if you didn't keep track of time spent sanding you would not have to relive it every time you thought about it. Looks great can't wait to see it in paint.

Yes...but then I would not have satisfied my morbid curiosity on how many hours were in the block sanding process (S&M!) in addition...I did not keep track of the probable thousand(s) of hours involved in the section and fabrication...that woulda just made me depressed...the three hundred hours is just a drop in the bucket at this point!

Lemme start and say....I hate this effen inner roof....it sure will look good when it's done but dang....I started out the day wet sanding the inner roof.... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1410937499.744858.jpg

Now it's 0300 eastern....and in sealer!!!!! AKA the next time I have to touch this hell of roof and dash is to put gloss paint on it! Wish I hadda crystal ball to see into the future and tell what a PIA this idea was going to be...shoulda used a normal headliner instead of making a fiberglass one...9 hours of crap dripping in my face!

I truly hate this inner roof....one of the best and worst ideas I ever had....I couldn't just leave well enough alone could I....the dash is lookin mighty svelte though....

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1410937637.926149.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1410937653.695827.jpg

Cut the door jambs in as well....screw those things as well....

307 hours into paint prep...hopefully nearing the end...

I re sprayed the sealer inside the cab after sanding it again....I wasn't happy with the first go....this coat went on very well....temp is perfect...

Still I have the bed, doors and hood to do....but not that much...8 hours or so worth of work and the rest of the truck will be in sealer....

Alright, just shot the sealer on the bed, I sealed the hood a few days ago....running boards, a few small parts (steering column, etc), and tonnoe cover and doors left still (waiting to seal them until I set up the door/window guts).

Doors and tonnoe cover are prepped and ready....so as of now 80ish percent of the truck is sealed n ready for paint!

Sidebar....the inner bed....if I had it to do over again I would have bought a clean, new bed floor from some random truck to use...that thing was an epic pain!

    367 hours into paint prep!

Three more pieces down! Add another three hours to my register...

Doors (waiting on them till I get the power window guts in em) and tonnoe cover are all that is left before the shiny sheit goes on!

Holy crow....I just looked at my time log....I have been doing paint prep for a year and three months....(nights, weekends etc)

Its nice work. I could give a shit how many hours it took. It always takes as much time as it needs to be done right.

Agreed Chaz/Smoke....that's what talked me off the ledge....I made a deal with myself I would not drive it until the last effen lug nut was on it and right....I am holding to that...

It's gonna be sweet....there really is light at the end of this tunnel....I'm actually getting excited! Still a ways to go but big progress is fun to see unfold!

So after procrastinating for months I finally got off my dead ass and ordered a custom bench seat so I have something comfy to sit on...Glide Engineering was awesome to work with...they customized one of their bench seats for my chopped and sectioned truck for no additional charge (they took 2.5 inches out of the seat back) what I had waiting for me....

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644159.979101.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644176.916611.jpg

    Super impressed with their work!

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644441.802996.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644471.111668.jpg

The biggest reason I went with em is the fact that their seat bottom flips up....seeing as I don't have lots of space due to the section I am installing the fuse panel and all the other relays and control boxes under the seat...I wanted easy access to the gear under there...

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644578.465366.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644590.768671.jpg

Foam kit mocked up....it's super comfy...I sat in the drivers seat and made vroom vroom noises for bout a half hour....it had to be done...

I also received a new set of power windows....these I will have to modify a tad but I realized that the power windows I had won't work now that I took 2.5" outta the doors....whoops...is what it is...I got a set of direct fit power assemblies...I will have to move the lower mount up 2.5" and trim 2.5 inches off the track but in theory should be pretty easy....I ain't worried bout it..

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1417644810.153096.jpg

    So there ya have it!

Just read through the whole thread and wow. Great work. Nothing quite like a sectioned and chopped AD truck. Gonna be sweet when done and well worth the wait.

Official truck update: power window mechanisms are now installed....since they are I was able to seal the doors and the four pieces of moulding retainer that I found...

What does this mean? It means that gloss is going on next!!!! The entire truck is sealed!!!! Dis bout to get good!!!

    Edit....thanks bigjoe...I appreciate it.

  19. Looks good. Do you not have to sand your sealer? Most sealers I have used require sanding if they have been left more than a week.

I'm using a waterbase paint...but yes I scuffed the sealer directly after taking that pic.

White auto air colors base laid...right now I'm just doing all of the insides of stuff that I can easily blend the line when I put the top coat on...once all these pieces are done I'll mask them off and do the exterior (and subsiquent door jams and inner cab) all at once...

Preface...this has taken place over a few days..here is a log of what I have done so far....

I wet sanded first...then pre-paint activities (took way longer than I thought).....here's the litany of crap I did....swept the floor....a lot....then scrubbed it....de dusted the walls...cleaned the inside of the garage doors...hung paper on all the various shelves, benches, welders etc...cleaned the shop lights, cleaned the drop light, cleaned all the air hoses, cleaned the extension cord, cleaned the paint guns again..

THEN I wiped the entire thing down with pre-paint solvent....tac ragged it....got a new tac rag and did it again...

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1421104826.972751.jpg

BEHOLD! We bypassed "The Shocker" and went to "THE SHOW STOPPER"

It was time to start slinging....

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1421104971.511223.jpg

Base white on (waterbase takes three coats) BORING!!!! No runs though!

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1421105026.895151.jpg

Next up....turning it into a heavy metal rock star....heavy flake intermediate base applied (getting fun! Looks like Elton John was up in here!)

There's where we are right now....color is up next....it's gonna involve a transparent base so I can mask the roof....it should be a pain in the arse to do.....standby!
