This is a 69 sbc , does anyone know if a lock washer is used ?
And the torque 45 to 50 pounds ?

    Thanks for any pointers

Plus it's my first time putting a oil pan on do you use silicone just on the corners where the rubber meets the cork gasket ?

I wouldn't (use a lock washer), but I would check bolt length.
I'd get the torque spec from a shop manual or from bolt manufacturer if aftermarket.
Yes, on the just the ends (where the 2 meet).

Use a new grade 8 bolt and torque it to spec , no lock washer.

I would forget the cork and buy felpro.

  4. I always put some extra sealant where the cork and rubber meet. Some gasket sets give instruction that say that very thing. The other guys are correct about no lock washer. If your concerned, maybe loctite the threads?

no locktite on the threads as the bolt goes thru the oil path and can get into the block . properly torqued ( 3 step method ) the bolt will not loosen up

I was just doing that a couple days ago...and I already forgot the torque spec. The bolts don't loosen if they're tightened properly. But some times the pickup tube falls out of the pump.

Don't seem many guys running the original 45 year old oil pump. Nice!

Is that the one piece gaskets ? I did order one but had to send it back I needed a thin front seal..and could not find a thin one piece .

Its my fathers motor for a 32 , its has very low miles 10,000 maybe . then it sat for 30plus years .
we are both trying to get it started on a stand , to do a compression test on it , and see what comes up ..
then hope to put it back in the car .

Thanks everyone for the help !

Fel-Pro makes both a thick and a thin one piece gasket. I haven't used a cork pan gasket since they came out with the one piece unit. They do cost more but are worth it.

also check the pan rail for excessive dimpling around the bolt holes as many people tighten them up like they hold the head on from under there . if they are dimpled just use a ball pein and lightly hammer them back out . and use a torque wrench to put the bolts back in they only need 12 pounds/feet . oil pump IIRC is 65 pounds/ feet .
