Sorry to have stirred the pot so much with my era incorrect build within your 4 year build window. Thanks for all the positive comments on the flames and the car itself. Just for the record, I've removed the chrome headlamp covers (can't see at nite with half the headlite covered in my old age now) better to see than be cool. If there's ever a thread for 57 era customs I'll try to enter that one since that's the period I was originally shootin for when I built this. As for the Dummy Spots,at the time I was just goin for the look not necessarily authenticity. Never ever thought I'd have the car 32 years after the original build. Only thing I've had longer is the wife and kids. Also there weren't as many critics back then as the Hamb didn't exist.

  2. Slopok: True words, and sometimes the critics had more tact 32 years ago, but not always. I'd subscribe to a thread on '56-'60 custom builds! Start one!

    Dear Slopok,
Please do not find the comments to harsh. You have a great car and you apperently is pleased with it since you've had it for such a long time. And being pleased with your own car is all that matters.

The idea with this thread is to highlight this specific 5 year window, since the years have a pretty distinct style compared to earlier and later kustom styles.

The old style kustom community on the HAMB is a very small group compared to the hot rod community and therefore it's hard to keep a thread like this together. There are simply not many cars around in this style with what you call "authenticity" in the build. If you posted a similar flamed hot rod with late 1950's wheels in the "1940's hot rods"-thread, you would get a lot more bashed and hundreds of pics of what is "correct" would flow over you. This is since the hot rod guys are so many more and have more knowledge about the specific eras.

Thanks for reading the thread and please stick around! :)

  5. I don't see that this should be an issue. The thread opening clearly states the build style and time window that the thread is for. Anything posted that's outside that is a mistake. But then, sometimes people make mistakes, it's human. Sometimes they walk into the wrong toilet, even when there's a sign on the door!

No harshness whatsoever, I totally get what you were lookin for in the specific time frame and my car clearly misses that by 5 years. The Hamb is no different than school, always got caught cheatin there to.:D

What I meant about authenticity was the Spots being Dummys as opposed to real Appletons, however my lake pipes are functional, so that's the only fake thing about my car. Oh yeah and by the way I aint goin nowhere til ya kick me out.:D

Guess it's true what they say that you can't fix stupid, I can't even figure out that 48 thru 52 is 5 years as opposed to 4 like I'd mentioned earlier.

Well, 1948 is one year, 1949 is one, 1950 is one, 1951 is one, and 1952 is one so I'd say that's where he got 5 years.
Seriously, if you start a 1955-'59 kustoms thread a lot of us will be happy. There are quite a few beautiful cars running around that fit that era. (And to be perfectly honest when this thread started I thought it was for 1948-'52 cars built in an old style, not just for cars built in the '48-52 style!)

Counting is a good thing to know... :D

When this thread started the very first post shows a picture after the explaing of what the thread is about. That car is Bob Benns 1936 Ford. So you must've started reading the book from the middle... :D:p

Thanks JB. Here's a shot I took in the Rodders Journal studio. The car turned almost completely black inside!

My goal with my 46 is a late 1948 early 1949 build date. Learning as I go on metal work but doing the best I can! Hope this fits.

Gee, John, the nice thing about hubcaps is they're easy to change. I've had 4 different sets on my car in the past 10 years. Just pop some on and when you get tired of them put something else on. Swap meets and eBay are full of sharp caps to try.
Although to me your beautiful car is crying out for sombreros.
