Fremont, from the Fremont Facebook page:...This was a special place and most touring racers stopped here to run...gone now, but missed by those of who were lucky to either race or spectate here.

Was in motion...Rich Guasco's Pure Hell, Dale Emery almost drowned after the car got off course and upside down in an irrigation ditch...if I recall the story, it was the Del Rio brothers who helped get the car righted and Dale out of the car.

M&R and Big, '62. M&R and Garlits got into a long-distance war of words in Drag News when Sid Richter questioned Garlits 1320 record set at Lassiter Mountain Drag Strip in Alabama. Richter, forgetting the name of the track, just called it "Moon Mountain Drag Strip," and said the lights were probably not valid there. Garlits read the commentary and blew up at Bob Haines, who was the M&R driver...in the next issue Haines pointed that he had said nothing, that it was his boss, but then also took a swing at Garlits record....this was around the time of this picture so there probably was a lot riding on this race.

Cant make out either car...the one nearest the camera might be the Big Wheel from Minnesota??

Caption says it all...guess that twin blower set up didn't work because very few other than Palamides tried it...I think Paul Gommi had one...and then the Grabowski roadster got one after the next owner "improved" it (!!?)

Nunez and Dillon...these guys ran several blown gassers, ran strong

Early version of the Quality Auto fuel altered, later these guys shifted to a Pete Ogden chassis.

Very early Fremont -- notice how small the stands are

I think that Chuck Poole was a local racer, later would tour ...notice starter Chet Carter's T touring in the background

I think this a version of the "Warlock" fuel altered, Sorensen & Agree, though I don't know exactly who was involved in this version

Jungle vs Gas Ronda, If I remember correctly, Gas was originally from Northern California, raced an Olds gasser, then moved south...later retired because of severe burns...a real racer and survivor. Notice the development that sprung up in the background; early Fremont was mostly surrounded by fields and a glider port.

Not sure but think that this is the Fosberg & Hubbard fueler, 364" Algon injected sbc...this car took out some much bigger engine-fuelers

Pennington and Danylo from SoCal come north to race..This might have been the car that Boyd Pennington lost his life in at Lions

Juggers Racing Team from Burlingame CA, still around. Harold Hensel drove...AHR meant "A/Hot Roadster," the class for fuel roadsters until they were merged with fuel coupes to form "Fuel Altered."...metal body

Regarding the Danylo & Penington Dragster photo from Fremont. That is my dad's hemi in Mike Danylo's dragster. Very cool photo. Probably taken when they came up to challenge for a spot on the Drag News Mr. Eliminator list. It is not the car my dad was killed in at Lions though. He was driving his own car at the time.

Thanks for the update, Smog Rat...note also that I misspelled his name...along with all the captions of him on Don Ewald's site, all had "Pennington," but it needs to be corrected, note spelling on nose of Danylo and Penington car above.....I tried to find a picture of Boyd's own car on Ewald's site, but this was all there was, and Ewald was not sure if this Jim Davis chassis at Lion's was Boyds?
