I installed a Posies reversed eye spring on my 4" dropped CE axle. With no motor, tranny or sheet metal installed the ends of the springs are touching the spring perches on both sides.

In theory, I would think that as more weight is added, it would push harder on the spring perches preventing it from rotating and basically riding like a buck board.

    Any input on this?

  4. Sounds like the spring is too wide for that model axle. What are your centre to centre measurements, perch bolts and king pin? JW

Here's the pics of a CE set-up on my '36. Sorry for all the dust - it's a work in progress...... The engine is in the car, but no front sheet metal, radiator, bumper, etc.

  8. Here's one more to look at. I assume you want reference to 32--36 style axle? Hope this helps..Tim 003.JPG

Try this. It acts like the spring is too long to me. It measures 35.5" from center to center.

  10. With no engine the shackles should be pulled in to the center at nearly a straight line. Your spring is on top of the hanger and it should be below the hanger. The springs "hang" your hanger is acting as a "holder upper"

The other side. I will admit that this is the first time I have ever used these little triangle hootis........not sure how they are supposed to look. It apears they rotate but these seem to only fit one way.

  12. You need to flip the shackles down and you should be ok !! JW

  13. From the top down

    Hanger, stud inside, spring

Flip shackles and that will fix your sprimg but the studs will be outside.
You'll need to undo the shackles and reset them to get the stud inside

  14. Root, you just need to flip the shackle,If you use a crowbar you should be able to pry against the spring eye and the perch,,the spring need to be below the perch. HRP

I started to do that and it felt REALLY bound up. That's when I decided to confer with the resident experts. Haha

  17. It will feel hard as its a lot of tension to overcome. JW

  18. Interesting to see how this comes out, I have the same set up CE axle with '37-'40 bones, 37-3/4" perch eye centers and am thinking about a different spring.

Was the 35" spring what Posies spec'd for your set-up?

Ok, boys and girls, I am feeling kinda dumb about now……..

I jacked up the front end and put a crow bar on it and with quite a bit of force it broke over center and it remedied itself. Now it actually rebounds like a real front end. I knew something was up. PLus it dropped it down where it should be. It looks much better and feels right now.
I'll add some pics when I get a chance.

Rich, it was an off the shelf spring for a 35-40 Ford.

    Thanks guys.
    Viva La Hamb !!!!!!!

I see that all the time on tandem axle trailers that come to my shop, the shackle links get inverted below the rocker arm. Everything binds up when that happens.

Can you post a pic of it being correct now?
There is a little question of where the lower shock mount will be. You may have it correct angle wise, but be upside down - putting the shock mount in the wrong spot elevation wise.

  23. When I used the Chassis Engineering split bone kit on my 39 Ford convertible I mounted my shackle mounts like Root has them oriented that way it gives the shock slightly more room once he flips them to travel. HRP

  24. I would like to see a view including the top mounts to see how the shocks fit around the sway bar. JW

Probably can't see much. It's kinda dark out there.
