Just thinking of what options are out there for 1930 =1950's front axles to use on a 3Spring setup. Ford and Chevy truck, sure, but what else looks nice? Bob
Oh Boy, this is the H.A.M.B.! No one excuses ignorance. They feed on it. My first guess would be that it has 3 springs. Other than that I am waiting for the answer like you.
It was a popular Sprint Car set up in the 1920's to 1930's. two parellel springs in front and a Ford style cross spring in back. Bob
The Ernie Triplet Pacific Coast Championship car at Hershey 2014. I'm thinking about an axle with brakes for street use. Bob
Think this is on a Caddy. That's a transverse spring on the end of parallel leaf springs on the rear of a Caddy. Only pic I have of it. You can see the ends of the parallels and the spare.
^^^^ Thanks Ned, that is what was called a platform spring setup for use on the rear axle. I'm looking for shots of front axles with paralles springs like the #5 two man race car.Bob
(Some) Early Dodges had that setup with the transverse spring connected to the back of their parallel rear springs as well.
A Franklin is too hard to find and setting up would require more difficult parts search than I want to do, so I am using the 30's Mopar double-dip converted to 32 Ford spindles. One of the key things to make your 3-springer look "period" is hanging the front springs on the outside of the frame rails.
