John, it sounds to be an easy fix. I've never done it but to me it's the best option after all I just went through trying to come up with an alternative. I have a complete dash with decent instrument panel and (ok) restorable gauges. PM if you're interested.

Thanks rat nasty, when I get it over to Jason's you're more than welcome to come take a look. Hopefully it'll be on the road within a few months. As long as the weather gets better.

I'm an idiot, I got caught up talking about the car and it totally slipped my mind. I gotta run back to the shop tomorrow. I'll grab some.

I've always wondered why some folks insist on ending each one of their reply's by signing the reply (typing their user name)??? Do they think we're all wondering if it's REALLY them replying? A ghost writer has signed onto their account and is replying on their behalf tonight?
Hey, we see your user name right next to your avatar.

Great looking 51. Looking forward to the build!

Hey guys, what's the best way to get the 51 grill surround to line up with the lip of the hood? Also does the 49-50 grill surround meet the hood without any work being done? Weighing options for cost. Labor vs. Parts

Find a 49-50 surround especially if your gonna run a custom grille. You can modify the 51 but its alot of work or you can flare the hood out to match. You can look in my albums, I did that to my silver 51

Thanks man, I was very undecided on the grille until I saw Mikes51. I'm going to run a stock 51 grille now. I even bought two other grilles before I decided. Here's a pic of what I'm planning on running. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1395378328.054895.jpg

Cut 4" out, don't look like it cause the door window frames are off. 4" is about the perfect amount of chop in my opinion. I'll get some better pics later. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1395963951.762374.jpg

I believe it was MercuryLand that went out of business. Merlin Wright at Mercury and More still sells them.

Hopefully the gauges work with the Ford 429 I'm using in the Merc. If anyone has any expertise on these, your help will be much appreciated. I'm not exactly sure which side of the gauge I hook up the power and or voltage reducer. The speedo is another problem, I think I'm running a C4 tranny, any special speedo cable needed? Got a few pics to catch up on. Several decisions, months, 4 grills, tons of other issues this is where we're at. Sticking with 9 teeth or are you planning on adding 10 and 11 on the Desoto grille?

Thanks Brady. Yea I'm sticking with the 9 tooth. Thought I'd do it a little differently. Of course the 11 tooth is classic, I just personally like the 9 better.
