    How about some old NHRA classes?
    Like B/G for B cubic inch per lb weight class/ gasser.
    A/A for A cubic inch per lb weight class/ altered.
    AA/FA is A cubic inch per lb weight class, A repeated for blown/ fuel altered

    PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation (Keeps your crankcase cleaner.)
    PVC = Poly Vinyl Chloride (Tape for insulating wire.)

    It took me a while to figure out what ROG meant. As a model builder, my first thought was Revell of Germany, but I figured that it was OT here. I finally realized that it stood for Race of Gentlemen.

    LARS stumped me too, but I think it is the Los Angeles Roadster Show.

    LSR = Land Speed Record
    Ton = 2000 lbs or 100 MPH
    BNI = Bonneville Nationals Inc (host of Speed Week)

    Great input (for me anyhow)

    Maybe veering off the original title of the post, but what about "Moon" tanks and gassers - I know what both are, but never really understood the purpose of the "Moon" tank - is that for just enough fuel for a track run?

    The purpose of a moon tank on a gasser is that the pumps used with mechanical fuel injection need some pressure on the inlet side, they dont "suck" well, so by mounting the tank in front of the motor, the force of acceleration would provide that pressure.
    The purpose of a moon tank on a "gasser" is to fit in and give the car owner a nice warm fuzzy feeling of belonging, and to reassure himself that he is one of the "cool guys", it doesnt have any mechanical function, and most of the time, isnt even hooked up... Basically, it serves the same purpose as a codpiece did in the 16th century.

    Those came pretty Quick to me, but "third member" took me a long time.
    At first I thaught it was something naughty.
    Oh silly, silly me.

    But 9" rear, 8.8, 8 3/4 dosen't come clear ro me.
    Or the differens between 10 bolt and 12 bolt.

    And just my 0.2 cents. First of shouldent that be 2 cents or 0.2 dollar? And why does it mean IMHO?

    2 cents is not $0.2. That would be twenty cents. 2 cents is $0.02. The prefix cent, is Latin for hundred. Percent means per hundred. One cent means one hundreth. One hundreth of a dollar is one cent.

    SO could be side oiler, and referes to Ford 427 FE or FT.
    The 427 cammer is Side Oiler. Regular 427 can be both.
    Wikipedia has a nice picture and some good Info.
    But always remember, not to soely religh on Wikipidia, but pictures are good!

    I know that, I just dident catch that in my re-read, I edit most stuff ones or twice, because I spell SO badly! :-/

    But that dosen't answer my Question about why does 0.2 cent mean the same as IMHO?
    That does in terms mean; In My Humble Opinion.
    I know that too but fail to see the connection.

    Thats a general defect for me. :D

    The average person's opinion is worth about 2-cents.

    From "That, and 2-cents, will buy you a cup of coffee."

    Which, like so many American idioms, dates back to the early thirties, when you could still buy a cup of coffee for 2 cents, and were lucky if you earned $2 a day...

    "Side oiler" and "center oiler" refer to the two FE oiling systems.In a "center oiler" the main gallery runs along the center of the block, above the cam gallery, the oil feeds the cam/lifters first. The "side oiler" has the main gallery running down the side of the block, and feeds the mains and cam bearings at the same time.

    I believe side oiler Ford FE was solid lifter only.

    That is correct. All side-oiler blocks were solid lifter. But not all solid-lifter FE's were side-oilers.
