Just thought I'd post some pictures of a 42' Packard Clipper. IMG118.jpg I've been working on this car for a 1yr. and half now for a friend . The original plan was to build a budget street rod driver but the further we got in to it the more carried away it was getting. It has been chopped and made into a hardtop, with all the added structural supports. 51 Lincoln headlamps, custom made outer grille with 49 Lincoln road lamps, enlarged wheel openings, flush mounted fender skirts, custom made taillight. The rear "slot" is for taillights?

The short cowl, long hood, and laid-back windshield really made those cars swoopy.

This car just "oozes" class, as someone has earlier stated. I wonder if that super smooth straight 8 would handle a/c ? It would be the coolest road car ever.

  9. Yes indeed.....all agreed.....that is really shaping up nicely. More pictures please....no need to be stingy ! Would love to see 'em.

Very cool, I spotted an old tv show on you tube [ banachek ] and they have a customized 41 packard in the show, I have my dads 46 in my garage and have been thinking I might do it when I run out of projects, but the 2dr you started with is the body style a guy should start with. You are doing a fantastic job!

Banachek drove a Darrin. OEM custom body, not "doctored". Just sayin...

On the O/P, I guess I'm a purist when it comes to Packards. I appreciate the work but not the look. Mine would sport the 356 with twin carbs and full mandrel bent exhaust. Of course OEM skirts and draggin ass just a wee bit too, but she'd still be all Packard. One of the few best left as-is IMO. Still, nice work you're doing there.

Hey desotot that 46 you have could be easily change to a 2dr. and that 4dr. roof line would look sweet chopped. Food for thought.

  20. Wow.......what a great way to say hello. You are a lot more badass then you initially revealed. Great center console, and rear seat configuration. Nice metal work, everywhere that you touched. Very, very cool sir.

Just would like know why thread was moved. The car looks like a traditional custom like in your guide line for traditional customs.

IFS and a title that says street rod would be enough to get it moved. I like the project, keep up the good work.

  24. No one repros parts for these, so put all those stock floorpans and stuff you cut out that the trunk at least looks pretty solid in the picture, on eBay or somewhere where a guy who needs them can find them.

Wow! that response to an utterly gorgeous job seems so inadequate, but what else can I say, wow!

Nice work! But I'm a little confused. At the beginning of the thread, you have pictures of two differnt cars; a 2 door and a 4 door. It looks like you are working on the 2 door version. How was the 4 door involved?

Very nice work. I dislike those headlights on the Lincolns that they came on, but I actually really like the look on this Packard. Beautiful air cleaner as well. A few of the modern touches like the IFS and A/C, wheels, and those front seats take it out of the strictly traditional category, but I really like the overall effect and I'd say it still definitely fits as "traditionally inspired, I look forward to seeing the finished product.
