Jeez... no pix anywhere on this event, no new threads? Videos? It was a very nice day and the full range of cars from street legal stuff to FED were there. As a first time drag racer I made 7 laps but only got good slips on six of them. The best I could do was an 8.893 sec ET, 79.39 mph in the 1/8th mile which equates to about a 13.90 sec ET and 98 mph or so in web-based conversion programs for the 1/4 mile. That doesn't seem so bad for a rattling old 2800 lb truck with 200 hp on one rear wheel and 3.50 gears. My reaction times were just embarrassing - the best one just approaching .6 seconds. Not .06 but .60 seconds. Gads. I'm going to blame it on the low roof! Unfortunately, I somehow deleted the few pix I took while trying to download them from the Nikon. Jeez. Hopefully some will show up on the HAMB on the web in a few days. Anyone snap any shots of my truck? Gary
Wasn't it fun though, Gary ? Like you, I had horrible 60 ft times due to no traction, but I felt like Garlits going down the strip when I raced there two years ago. God willing, I will be there next October with the new car. This is one of the best events ever. Hope someone posts lots of pictures and videos of this years races. I think what happens is that everyone is having so much fun they forget to take pictures. Don
Don, yes it was fun but I didn't take it too seriously - I just wanted to see what it would do "officially" at a track. I could have stayed there longer trying tire pressures, or air ride settings, or even a computer tuner, but I doubt it would have been worth the effort, so to speak. But if I ever get a posi and 3.90 gears I'd go again, fer sure. Gary
Didn't take pictures. Watched a few 4-6 sec 1/8 mile passes on the slingshots and fuelies. Wish they had both boards working. Concessions are poorly setup. Nice cars. Some real deal fast cars. 10$ runs. Good day.
As an old timer drag racer I would just like to let you know one does not make LAPS at a drag strip. You made 7 RUNS and your times are decent for your maiden runs.
I took a few pics while my heap was cooling off from the trip, made three passes (first time down the track). I cut these down to 1/4 resolution so if you want a full res copy PM me. Having difficulty with the upload, will post more later.
Thanx for the pix, and I'm sure glad I have at least one of the truck on the track! Anyone else? Gary
The old Lakeland Dragstrip looks about the same as it did years ago. I have not been there in the past 10 years. Great event and plenty of fun and sunshine. Jimbo
