I have a 1950 331 Caddy motor trans combo that I'm putting into a t bucket. When I bought it, it didnt come with the kick down linkage. Am I screwed, do I need it? I'm fairly new with messing with transmissions and am worried I'll jack it up messing with it rather than selling it while it's still in good working order. Should I be looking into spending the 2 grand getting an adaptor and trans to replace the hydramatic( other than having the 3 pedal hot rod rule!). I'm also using a Lokar universal cable shifter, its there something better to use or will this be ok to run. Thanks in advance....
somebody smarter than me will answer your question, i dont know to much about hydros but whatever you do please post the build.
You absolutely need the linkage. It controls pressure inside the trans to make it shift right, without it every shift will slip like crazy. Back in the early 60s we would hook up a choke cable to vary the pressure. Full on part throttle shifts would give you whiplash.
I would like to know about this 331 Caddy motor with the T-5? Pictures? Measurements of the adapter? Specs? Thank you, germ
We make the early caddy and Olds conversions for T-5/Muncie as well as the 350/400 turbos and 700r4 automatics Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Run the Hydro! Build your own linkage and get motorvating. Join the Hydro Tech group here and check out the thread B&M Hydro Stick Installation Instructions. It'll give you a pretty good idea on how to build your own kick down linkage.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think the 1949-1954 Cadillac 331" engine had the bellhousing built onto it...that would necessitate figuring out how to attach a modern tranny since a modern tranny is manufactured with a bellhousing. You might be in for a big let down IF you don't do any research on the 1950 engine and find out it can't be done...!!! R-
My parts are for extended bell engines.... 49-53/54 caddy 49-64 olds Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thanx Goatroper, I can see how you did it now...but does that adapter lengthen the later tranny...??? R-
If you want a stick shift you can get adaptors to put one behind the early '50s Cad. engine. My roadster has an Econoline tranny. with a Jeep shifter. The bottom photo is my Cad. engine adapted to the 48 Ford tranny. Both transmissions are short and work well in T buckets.
No.... Mine will fit in stock autos without Trans tunnel mods.... Bolts up just like it was a sbc Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
