This is the very first cover car of Rod and Custom, June 1953. It was built by Lew Thompson and chopped and painted by Gene Winfield. It's owned by Eric Arnett of Atlas Speed and Custom. This was found in Arkansas, in a chicken coop earlier in the year. Rusty Burford of Dirtys Speed shop here in Combine Tx is rebuilding the chassis, and I am restoring the sheet metal. Gene will paint it again when I'm done with the body. This is a really great piece of hot rodding history! The original owner is still alive, and has met with Eric. He still had all the pictures of it, and the trophy when it won the Oakland Roadster Show back in 53. The car will debut at the GNRS in 2016.

This has been a fun job so far. I don't do work that has deadlines, but this one is worth it!

I am excited about this rebuild especially with the history associated with it. I can understand everyone's excitement as I was when I discovered my coupe was a magazine feature car. To those of you that wish to rebuild projects of this nature you are part of the foundation of the HISTORY of this hobby/sport that we call hotrodding. I am awaiting further updates. Thanks again.....................

Chassis is not replaced, it is still the original chassis. Just had to be repaired.
