Technical Air cleaner tapered ring removal, or?....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 13, Oct 12, 2014.

  1. I am considering using the stock air cleaners on my Dodge because the carbs (B&B 1 bbl) have a protruding ring for mounting. I'm sure there is a correct name for that, but I cannot run any aftermarket cleaners because of it. What did the old timers do, simply grind the ring off?

I'd cut the corresponding piece out of stock air cleaners and weld them to the bases of the "custom" air cleaners.

That said I don't think it would hurt anything if you did cut the rings off as long as you took the top off the carb and cleaned it up good after doing the grinding or cutting.

  3. Oh yeah I would remove the tops and wash/rinse really good before reassembly. Thanks for the reply Mr48chev
