Technical Drive shaft help

    Anyone out there make driveshafts...
    I've got to go from c 4 to stock shoebox rear end.....

  3. Most any good driveshaft shop can do that.
     
  4. Look on ebay, there's a guy that custom makes them for around $100-150 or so. you tell him length and u-joint size and they'll send it out. Worked on my chevy so far. Can't remember the sellers name sorry

    One ......I like the price of eBay guy more

  6. 350 is a good price. It runs about 400 bones for a complete one here. Do you have the original drive shaft??? Maybe you just need to have it shortened and a new yolk put on??

    Or you go the cheap route like I did on my '54Ford which uses the same style rear as your shoebox,get a drive shaft from a 1982-86 Crown Vic and this rear conversion U-joint : http://www.drivetrainamerica.com/p-6076-neapco-2-0291-2c1310-conversion-u-joint.aspx The Crown Vic shaft has the correct front yoke to work with your C4 or an AOD It is a bolt-in swap for 1952-56 Fords,you might have to shorten it a few inches since your shoebox has a slightly shorter wheelbase but that is a lot cheaper than buying a whole new shaft.

    Hey Jeff I have a 97 explorer drives haft
    That is perfect length ...would this u joint fit it....it's yoke is 3 5/8 with 1.061 bearing cups

    Give the link above a call they could give you all the specs,it only shows the bearing cup diameters on the link.

    You can probably find a conversion joint to fit. I have also combined two joints to make one that they did not make. My local shop has an old joint book that gives all the sizes for all the bearings and crosses. Find that listing and DO IT, Gary

    Picked up that joint from Napa for $35
    Fits my 97 explorer and a 85 Ltd
    And the wing bearing caps look right....

  12. Been a while since I've had a shaft built I guess......man that seems high as hell to me.
     
  13. Most wrecking yards have them in an area. Get your measurements, grab a tape and dial calipers and head out.

    Power of the HAMB!
    BTW, with a stick welder, a carpenters framing square and a hacksaw,
    you can shorten and if luck abides, fit yokes to construct almost any driveshaft.
    {Make the final tube cut square, cut a centerline into the yoke weld & grind the tube-half of the yoke weld, leaving the inner flange portion, clean the yoke up and phase it to agree w/the other one, pound it in square, tack 3-4 plcs, then weld evenly.}
