I've got a problem, I've just had the ground wire on a powergen on my 40 ford flathead completely melt , replaced the wire and it did the exact same thing, I've got the ground connected to the negative side of the starter solenoid,

Could the alternator be buggered or could it be something else?

Getting nervous as I don't want to start a fire!

    Cheers
    John

There are no ground wires that connect to a Ford solenoid.

    That will be why!
I've got it sorted, but crapped myself when I saw all the smoke, but all good now!

Curious, which connection from the illustration above did you have the ground connected to and which correct wire was missing?
