I've been lucky enough to meet many over the years, but one that sticks in my mind was at the LARS several years ago when I was loading my booth on Sunday afternoon. I came out of the trailer and sitting on one of my chairs was the Isky man hisself, Ed complete with cigar and suspenders, He probably sat and talked with me for 20-30 minutes. Something to remember.

I guess I was lucky growing up in SoCal during the 50's. I got to meet most of them before they were famous. Great memories and some great minds...

Because he could set them up right,Junior Johnson.
    also Joe Fontana

"Joe Fontana, at 82, became the oldest person ever to gain entry into the Bonneville 200 MPH Club. He did it driving the Ferguson Racing XXO/Gas Streamliner to a 255.996-mph record and dedicating it to the legacy of Don Ferguson Sr. Fontana brought the house down at the banquet with the retelling of his fast pass: "I was scared to death. I didn't know where I was. The sun was right in my eyes. I was scared I'd keep going and wind up in Wells without my Viagra"

Anybody who wants to see Gene Winfield's Hot Rod, get the hence to El Mirage and look. I would like to meet Garlits again. I met him at checkin at the Wendover Motel Six and was dumb struck. Don't think I even got out a "Hi". Like to try to do better.

Stan VanAmburg, the guy that built my 26 coupe. He is not that well known but in the days of the real Pete&Jakes he was their mechanic. Haven't talked to him in a while but still lives in Temple City Ca......................

Easy answer --- "BIG DADDY" Don Garlits. Saw him run a best out of three with Sneaky Pete Robinson at our local strip circa '63. He was running Swamp Rat 3 at the time, and won the first two rounds. I wasn't quite old enough to drive, and my older brother took me to the meet with him. We didn't have enough money to buy pit passes, so we sat on the spectator side and did not get to meet him.

    Dean.

    I like your list.
A few others I would like to have met.

Ed and Bud Winfield, Lew Welch, Fred Offenhouser, Phil Remington, Leo Goosen, Amil Deidt, Eddie Kuzma, Luije Lesovsky, ... that list gets long.

I'll ad something to the list that has not been mentioned in this nine year old thread. Actor / Stuntman Bill Hickman. I first saw the Roy Scheider movie "The Seven Ups" in the mid 70's and was blown away by the super high speed car stunts it had to offer. Over 115 mph through the streets of New York. Cars bouncing and flying through intersections. Great shots of the cars exceeding 120 mph on the New York Expressway. Well shot and you really get the sense of speed. Smokin' tires and great sounds of the cars going through the gears. I then notice that this is the same dude (wearing black military style framed glasses) that is driving the black '69 Dodge Charger in Bullitt. He also did the supposedly rouge don't tell the cops were filming stunt in "The French Connection". This dude kicks ass for sure! I've met lots of famous people in my life. Most of them very nice. But some of the people that influence me are not always the kind of people that put themselves out there and seek the attention. In a way I feel that this guy really influenced me as a kid to get into fast cars. I would like to have met this guy and said thanks. He passed away in 1986 I think. Everyone has added their very personal eclectic names to the bunch. And what a fantastic roster of the "best of the best". Keep the names comin'.

  23. Thanks for reminding me Bill. Norm Weekly and Ron Rivero should have been on the list of men I have been fortunate enough to meet. Also, Ed Roth was at our shop a couple of times doing lettering and striping work on our midgets. There may be others, but the ones I listed tonight are all CRS would allow for now.

Most of the legends I dream about meeting are on the other side.
I'm to Young, to dumb and to broke to do anything about that.
The few one I might get a small change to meet is too fare away, for me to afford to go and meet them. :(
Bud Gene Winfield and Bill Hines, is still on my big Dream list.

    But there might be time left to meet some og the HAMB legends;
    Ryan
    Dean Lowe
    HRP
    3W Larry
    Porkbeaner
    El Polaco
    Need louvers
    Little wings
    Texas speedshop
    Tfeverfred
    27T Ford RPU
    Falcongeorge
    Langly
    Loudbang
    The moonlighter

There might be more. This is just of the top of my head.

    But on the to-late list is;
    Burt Munro
    Speedy Bill
    Vic edelbrock sr.
    Don "dyno" Nicholson
    Mr. Kurtis
    Mickey Thompson
    Steve McQueen
    Smokey yunick

I've met most of them. Ed Roth I met as a kid and we took a picture sticking out our tongues, but I wish I could have met him again when I got older to tell him what a profound impact he had on me.
Pete Millar, Junior Conway and Cole Foster were hands down the nicest guys, and Cole told my wife that she had a "keeper".
But I would love to meet TV Tommy and Andy Southard

  27. I came over to America just recently for the 2014 Louisville NSRA. I organised before hand to meet up with as many people as possible (both men and women). I was suppose to meet up with Jo Coddington but she did not even go to the show at all. I also met Ron Covell which was really good. As well as 2 other H.A.M.B. members. I came over from down under in Australia and will hope to come over again around August 2015. I would like to meet Lazze Jansen and try and catch up with Jo Coddington and Liz MIles.

I will probably think of others before I come back again next year.
