Well its been in the works for a few months but I finally bought the roadster that I had been chasing. It came from my buddy Dave over in Colorado. He had the body stored on a shelf for many years, since buying it from Mike DeVriendt back in the day. Story goes that Mike found it somewhere in New Mexico. At some point in its life someone decided that it needed two "golf door" holes on each side on the rear quarters. Thankfully someone did a pretty good job of repairing this before Dave picked it up.
Anyways, it has a nice old time cowl vent fill, and near perfect original floors still riveted to the subframe. All Henry steel with the exception of a Brookville pass door.
However, all this is completed with the unique windshield that had been stored in Dave's collection for who knows how long. It is a very early pre war example that was apparently created by the one and only old time hot rodder Crane Gartz. (Cragar) It was cast as an early V design that allowed the use of a cowl vent while fitting the upper reveal like a glove. The stanchions also allow the use of a top if need be. This thing is rare, apparently one of one. I contacted Don Montgomery the other day just to see if he had any recollection of Crane Gartz and this windshield. Unfortunately he couldn't recall.

Anyways, Im going to build the car around the windshield which we figure is something between the '39-'41 era. The car came with a lot of correct parts for the build.
    '39 Juice brakes
Lincoln V12 distributer with a nice old time V8 conversion
Original Dash with a ton of holes drilled for 2 5/8 & 2 3/8 SW gauges.
    Some NOS SW crescent temps
A Complete '37-38 21 Stud "LB" engine with trans.
    A nice late Banjo wheel

    Here are some photos.

Glad to see you made it home safe and sound. I have been wanting to see that windshield on a car for 15 years now finally glad to see it going to a good home and getting used.

Thanks Rex, I appreciate the work you did when mocking the car together and sending all the detailed photos. Also enjoy watching your builds both at home and the shop.

I quit! Why bother looking anymore, there can't be any good ones left out there?

  19. Damn good start on what should be a bitchin little roadster. That windscreen rules!

sent via classroom note. pass it on

  20. Awesome car dude! Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Just a nit pick, the engine is late '36 if its an LB block. '37 - half of '38 are centre water outlet, water pump in the block engines.

There was a dry lakes '32 roadster with a windshield like that...I had no idea it was an early Cragar!
That body is a dream...and young blood is alive and well on the HAMB.
