Newbie from South Dakota

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by Jakesrocks, Jul 19, 2014.

  1. Howdy all.
I'm new to H.A.M.B., but not to hot rods. Cut my hot roddin teeth in So.Cal. in the mid 50's with a hopped up 4 banger in an early 28 Ford Sport Coupe. I've been a banger lover ever since. I'm interested in finding out how many banger lovers are still out there.

I went for many years without a hot rod, so at age 72 I decided they weren't gonna stick me in the dirt before I owned another. I recently spotted a Coupe that was built the way I would have built my Sport Coupe, if I'd had the money to do so back in my high school years. I bought the Coupe, and had it shipped from So.Cal. to South Dakota where I presently live.

If there are any South Dakota members out there, I'd love to hear from you. I'm just north of Aberdeen.

  6. Thanks for the welcome Tman. Where abouts in the hills are you ? I have several friends living around Rapid City.
I'll have to check out the S.D. social group.
Got some work to do on the coupe before I can take any long trips in it. Mostly just driving around Aberdeen right now. Hope to have all of the bugs worked out by late next spring.

  7. I live south of Rapid and work in RC.

  8. Bunch of my Rapid City friends are rockhounds, as am I. When I can get out there we spend our time out in the grasslands looking for Fairburn agates, fossils and such. I'm the only hot rodder in the bunch, but one is into hot Harley's.

  9. Then you are right across the road when agate hunting. ;)

    Jakesrocks,

I lived in Aberdeen and went to high school there. I now live in So Cal but get back now and again to visit the family. I will try to remember to PM you when I am heading that way. Would love to see your hot rod.

  11. That's funny Jeff. I lived in So Cal (Riverside) up until about 18 years ago. After my parents died, my wife and I moved up here to be near her parents. Maybe you know some of the Lamberts from Aberdeen.

  12. Got one retired friend living full time in a big trailer out at Hart Ranch. My wife and I rent a cabin there when we come out.

    JakesRocks,

It is a small world. I look forward to seeing your hotrod. Look me up if you come back this way. I always like to chat with hot rodders, young or old. I always learn something new and useful, particularly from those who have been rodding longer than I have been around.

  14. LOL. Jeff, I doubt if I'll make it back out there. I kinda like being on ground that doesn't move. And with my feelings for California politicians, illegal immigrants and gangs, I'd probably serve out the rest of my years in prison if I came back out there.

    LMAO.

Well then I will have to come to you. I prefer a lot of things about SD but not the winter so I am a "summer bird" and visit only when there is no chance for cold or snow. :')

When I lived in Aberdeen, a bunch of buddies and I would try to raise hell, but being good SD boys, the most we could muster was "raising heck". Lots of fond memories of cruising around Aberdeen in our hotrods (at the time mostly Off Topic muscle cars). Looking forward to a cruse around town in a more proper hotrod (although still OT for the HAMB).

  16. If you decide to head up here in the summer, give me a shout. I'll fire up the barbeque. Always got a pot of coffee going too.

Actually, I'm getting too old for those long drives. Just driving the 6 hours out to the hills does me in for a day or 2. But I'm sure we could go out and terrorize Aberdeen for a couple hours.
