300 ford 6 dohc home and running

That is INCREDIBLE. If that head flows as well as it looks like it can, with the right fuel and tune that could be an absolutely ridiculous ride. Cool Find. Please keep posting info and pics as they come up.

OH DAMN!!!, DAMN, Damn, damn!! That's way out beyond just being cool.

I see a radiator cap. Is it a wet head, or just a place to get water in the block?

I guess you don't know yet about the crank and flywheel. Wondering if it has the forged truck crank or a custom billet and how heavy the flywheel is. Does it have an onboard starter?

How long since it's been loved (run)? I mean before you got it.

 

Wet head bore scoped it and it has cooling passages. It has a wilcap adapter to a powerglide and an 8" convert or can't get the scope into the oil pan to see the crank and rods to know what it's got in the bottom end. The guy I got it from said it had capscrew rods but he didn't have any pics of it with the pan off. It has a 2005 tech sticker from Tulsa.

Have you tried calling the phone number on the cam card? There might be a slim chance the guy still has that phone.

No CNC machines were abused in the production of this film, that's for sure...

Almost a 1920s feel to it, you could picture it being carved out on belt-driven tools and lots of hand files..well, aside from the plexiglas cam covers...

 

I'm curious about the recip. assembly too. If that engine can rev to 7K it can't have a stock crank, can it? That is a massive crankshaft.

What I want to know is are you smarter than a 5th grader?

 

Maybe it is stock lower end. I have a mild drag motor with a stone stock bottom end with cast crank and have put over 1100 runs on it . Granted we only shift it around 5000 - 5200, but I know others who have used a cast crank in a drag situation. Yes, the smart money would have been to use the available forged crank, and whoever built this engine looks smart enough to know that.

 

I'm in aw of the work that was done on this engine the more I get into it the more impressed I become. I have found out not only did they make the head and put cooling in it, the injection was made by them as we'll throttle shafts and plates. I have taken the exhaust off it to inspect the exhaust ports and it looks like a top fuel port, I can't help but believe this was a maximum effort no expenses spared labor of love. Who ever did the work and engineering deserves a great deal of respect especially when you consider this was done in the early 70's I can't even imagine the $$$$ and time that was put into it nothing yet is off the shelf.

Sholy Hit, that is some neat stuff right there!! Welded lobed on a shaft, then ground. Cam followers must be handmade as well, given that the pivots and followers each are stamped for their respective location.

 

Man o man, that is beyond cool. I'm really glad you let us see it.

 

Man, there HAS to be an open Bonneville record for a motor like that...

 

At Bonneville If it is a 300 inch Ford it would run against all other 260-305 inch engines. Lots of good running sbc engines in that range. Some Fords and a few DeSotos. But it would get lots of cool points no mater how fast it is.

 

Headed to the local 1/8 mile track tonight to see how much it has left in it should be fun.
