Sorry for the delay, my computer broke.

The engine is pretty much all back together now.

I had the sump, timing cover, balancer, and all the pulleys powder coated in a black crinkle finish to give some contrast against the gloss black epoxy on the block and heads.








The stock fuel pump plate looked crappy so i whipped one up from some scrap stainless.





Oil filter canister in the lathe getting cleaned up for powder coating.



Can and fan back from powdercoat.



Valve covers back from paint. I'll be picking out the Chevrolet text in the same beige as the wheels.



Pretty much every bolt on the outside of the motor has been replaced with new stainless bolts that i've turned the writing off and polished. These ones are for the timing cover.



The finished stainless low mount alternator bracket.

 

I got a chance to polish all the individual pieces of the stainless windshield and re assemble it. I'm over the moon with how it turned out. Time consuming, but so worth it.

 

Mounted the brookville grille shell after cutting it about at the bottom as its now mounted much lower on the sectioned radiator to match the channel.

 

This next post is an important one to me, as i've literally been arguing with myself for years over what tail lights to run. i dread to think how many hours i've spent searching and thinking about it but i'm really happy with the solution i ended up with.

After struggling to find anything that i REALLY liked, i always ended up coming back to the popular 1950 pontiac lights. Lets be honest, they are popular for a reason... They look simple and beautiful, and reproduction units are readily available. But the popularity of them is what scared me away again.

I decided to buy some repro lights (the glass lensed ones, not the nasty plastic ones) to see if i could use the lenses and internals and make my own bezels.

I first did a trial run with some scrap pieces to see if what i was thinking would work.





the lens sits in this recess on the back side.


Once i'd figured out my plan, i had these blanks waterjet cut from 8mm stainless steel by a local engineering firm to save me ruining all my holesaws. Anyone that has worked with stainless in the past will tell you how hard the stuff is, and how it ruins tools.



I got carried away once i'd got going and forgot to take pictures, but here are both pieces of a bezel after i'd turned them up on the lathe, drilled and tapped the top piece for stainless studs and hand filed the grooves in the back piece to locate over the studs.



The next day i made another set and polished the shit out of them.

It sounds totally lame, but I cant tell you how much of a relief it is to finally know what tail lights to run!

Tail lights look really nice. Great work on the other pieces you have put together recently.

Thanks for the comments, they really are appreciated.

Recently among other small jobs i made and fitted some repair/extension pieces for the bottom of the firewall. No fancy tools here, all they needed was to be bent in the vice and round a piece of pipe, and a bit of finessing on the anvil. Then Tig welded and smoothed.

 

The tail light work was really something!! Everything looks great!

Like so many others have said, I have no idea how I have missed this thread. I just spent a few hours going through what you have done so far. Ideas, execution, and workmanship are top quality. I am blown away by your skills. I look forward to the next installment.
