Projects Gene (Moonlighter) Cromer's A/G Willys Resurrection

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Quain Stott, Aug 31, 2012.

  1. Wow, is Gene still on his old motor ? A lot of money and time spent on building them, I know.......so not antsy, just wondering how bad ass and when his new engine is going into service. I honestly can't imagine that car going any faster.....but I am most positive that it surely shall. It has the sweetest first 50 foot launch of anything I have ever seen.....perfect setup likely.

Gene is still running his old engine. He doesn't have all the parts for his new engine yet. He needs the crank before he can proceed with the build. Hopefully it will come in next week.

  4. WOW......hell I like that even better !! Stroker FE......too bad Robert Pond isn't aware of this thread. Someone that deserves a "gimme" is definitely in a blue Willys gasser.

I'll bet the bore & stroke numbers are top secret at this point ;)

Quain; what are the South East Gasser's qualifying and race times at Knoxville Dragstrip September 27th ?
I'm assuming Gene will be there racing the Moonlighter.

It would be nice to have one of Robert Block.

Sure would be nice if a Pond FE Block showed up under your Christmas Tree this year. We can always hope Santa can get it down the chimney ... lol.

Gene and Melvin were doing a little PM on the Moonlighter today and I decided to video the test run. Sounds like it's ready for Ware Shoals Dragway this Saturday, weather permitting.

  11. Nice! Thanks for putting that up Frank. Does anyone know what time Ware Shoals will start on Saturday?

Quain posted earlier today that the Southeast Gassers Meet at Knoxville, Tn. has been canceled until next year.

Hang on to your ticket stub, the rain check will be honored next year.

Love how the torque of that FE rocks the whole car just by revving it a bit. :D

Yep, our rain checks are pinned to the cork board in the kitchen where they will not be misplaced. Geez, ... I don't know how I'm going to wait until next year ... what a bummer! I'm trying to honor that old saying that "all good things are worth waiting for".

  17. Wow. Man that is one hungry ass engine, ain't it ? Wooo E. Raps the whole car over. Incredible.

Yeah, I love to hear it run. It's sitting on jack stands there so it's not the soft tires letting it rock.
Tomorrow's weather is not looking so good.

  19. Nothing like an ole FE. Just proves your only as old as you feel. And you can see the thirty year olds coming out in Gene and Melvin. The competitive level in both of them is getting back to a dangerous level for the competition.

Well it was another rain out, but we had fun anyway. We are going to try it again in 2 weeks at Ware Shoals Dragway.

Did Gene, or any of the other SEG's get to make any qualifying runs before the rain?

  24. Several cars did run but it was starting to sprinkle. Looked slick.

We drove a little over 2 hours to get there and it was worth it! Got my pic with Gene.

All of the gassers in attendance went down the track except Gene. He and Jimmy Huff were last in line and it was just to wet to make an attempt. Jimmy did ease down the track, but broke loose whenever he got on the gas.

  26. We had to work yesterday but had planned to go after work and then the heavy rain moved it. HRP

We didn't get any heavy rain. It just got too wet to race, then stopped and the sun actually came out after they decided to call the race.
