That is beautiful. And so quiet and smooth!
May I be the first to voice the opinion that such a clean, complete, and rare car should not be customized? I'm more than happy to cut and weld all day long on a junkyard body, but that is a true gem - cutting into it would be blasphemy. I'll vote for lowering (reversible) and bolt-on mods only.

That said, it is yours now and you may do what you like with it and if you do go more extensive I will follow right along and probably be thrilled with the end result.

There was a Lincoln Zephyr on Ebay that just ended, buy it now for $90,000. It didn't sell. Primered car with 351 Ford. Way over priced for what it was.

Car Gods have been smiling down on this little coupe. Original paint came out amazing and even. The bright work has just the right amount of patina. Interior is just perfect. When I walked in the shop I couldn't believe it was the same car.

This. She's in great shape and looks fantastic. I'm surprised to see how well the paint cleaned up!

The 1940 Green Hornet serials featured a '37 Zephyr Coupe as 'Black Beauty', with a 'low frequency siren' for its unusual sound. (could have run straight pipes, but the 'buzz' was for Hornet effect)
Kado drove Black Beauty in 'fast motion', much to the glee of everyone who came back to the theater weekly to catch the next one...
and now I see it, right here on the HAMB! Just like Black Beauty...(still stock, all of 'em seem to be chopped now!)

I finally grew up, found the whole thing on DVD, and snagged it. You would be surprised at the number of friends I have that never even HEARD of the Green Hornet pre-1967!
They go ape hearing the Zephyr as it whizzes by, and disappears into the night...

Shee-ut. Black Beauty'd blow the doors offa the Batmobile...back then...

Reminds me of my 1937 LZ coupe that I owned from 1961 through 1974. Mine came with a first generation ford flathead which I swapped for a 1939 Ford flathead that I could not destroy and later a 1956 Chevy 265 warmed up to Corvette specs for 1956. With the Zephyr 4.44 to one rear gears and and a 39 ford tranny it was quick enough to beat a 1966 Comet Calliente in a street race. It Was FUN ! It was very straight and looked good in Honduras Maroon paint. I kind of wish I still had it.
Yours is beautiful!! Hang onto it and Drive It !

Just got her back from detail. Removed aftermarket center bumper guard, and installed correct 38 center guard.
A few pics of the her outside. Waiting for the sun to really see her shine.

Congrats! :) Loved those body styles! I remember seeing a 40 Zeph at the swap meet in Columbus Ohio NSRA Nats about 25 years ago. It was rough but complete and 12K. I though it was a buy then.
I am not a super traditionalist, but this car is pretty good the way it is.

I had to pull apart a 40 clock to repair the 38. Wish I could tell time. Lol ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1409806149.452015.jpg

Wow what a difference a good cut and polish makes. Your old zephyr looks really good now. I agree with the comments about lowering the rear but after lowering mine I know first hand how much is involved in getting it to sit right and still be a comfortable drive. To get a decent rake it would definitely involve straightening the rear cross member (which is a major job with the boot floor still in place and once done it's done with no easy way of going back.

Ian Hall, that's my zephyr you saw at the nationals, glad you liked it.
