History Your Favorite 49-52 Chevrolet

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Ryan, Jun 11, 2010.

  1. This one is easy for me! My cousin's 49 Chevy was my dream car back in the late 50's early 60's. It was 348 powered and quick. I would sit on my front steps on summer nights and hear it come around the corner onto my street which was wide and straight and he would get on that Chevy and I was in heaven. It had a sound all it's own. Some pictures! View attachment 2648426

These are the only photos that I know exist. It was dark Caddy green. That is Joe second from right with his trademark sun glasses. I never saw him without them day or night. RIP Joe! Car was wrecked many years ago.

I just wish I had never sold this car. I must have been crazy but at the time I was racing and needed the money in order to keep racing.

I have always really liked the 49-51 Chevrolet's the best. Even the stock ones with that beautiful Emerald Green color looked cool back in those day's.

    Mark:
Where were the photo's of Joe's car taken? Jimmy Karcher's old Ford is owned by a friend of mine in Saddle River, N.J.
Ray Soff has owned the car for over 20 or 25 years and it has been painted many times over the years.

Here's my '52 four door long term project. Still have to cut the glass and throw the rear end in it.
    It's got a 61 283 and a three speed.

I've seen pictures but never in real time. Don't know if factory accessory or dealer installed.

An old thread that keeps on with great cars showing up on it and several of my favorites in the mix.
One of my favorites is a local car that belongs to Lee Olson. I see it on the street fairly often in the summer and he showed up at a local event last weekend.

Some changes since this pic. Black wheels with '56 small caps, shortened front fender trim, louvered one piece hood, '55 Olds headlight rings, '51 Pontiac quarter window belt line trim, decked and nosed, backup lights gone, license plate light and mounting bracket below the trunk lid gone. Still to come is an Olds windshield and pictures when I can get my 10 year old grandson to show me how to post them. My second favorite car in this thread is the Doug Thompson hardtop.

Well Gals and Gearheads, I'm probably a wee prejudice, but I gotta cast my vote for my very special friend, Leland Grantz. You see, he bought this leadville Lowster right off the showroom floor, on Van Ness Ave in San Francisco, back in 1950. Of course back then it was just another black Chev convert. In 1954 he took it to Gene Winfield, and the rest is history. Now check it out.......He still owns this lowdown critter as we speak. That's why I put his picture first. Leland is not just a friend, but my hero. first ride 014.JPG Done Chev 007.JPG Done Chev 018.JPG

Very neat old school custom .... almost appears to have started with a 52-ish Olds rather than a Chevy. Thanks for posting.

My favorite is my girl's 51, built for $1. It's a cool car and it proved a point as well.
