Hey Hambers! I have followed you all for some time and you have helped again and again with my 40 Deluxe build. Thank You!!! There are A couple of things missing with my 40 Deluxe business coupe that have me wondering. This car has the deluxe grill, trim, front and rear sway bars and the 85 hp flattie. Some things it doesn't have are the sleeves over the springs, the distinct gauge cluster cover, clock in glove compartment. To my knowledge this car was all original except for a repaint and the wrong wheels. I found it in a barn up here in Minnesota and it was supposedly parked there in the early 70's. Were these things options or did it depend on where it was built? I will try and upload pics soon.
Spring covers are usually long gone. All deluxes have the same gauge cluster and all have a clock to my knowledge--have done 7 deluxes.
My Std coupe had a deluxe dash in it, which I assume must have been changed, but had std. garnish moldings. It did have the std instrument cluster also. I bought mine in 62, so in 30+ years it's very likely yours could have been messed with.
Your car has been changed over the years. As Tim stated, most spring covers were removed to service the springs and never reinstalled. Dash cover and clock were also standard. What do the window moldings look like? Do they have grooves in them?
Thanx all who replied! Most likely changed out through the years. I will keep the glove box door since I had it signed by Junior Johnson!
I've got an original working clock for sale, P.M. me if interested, Send me your email and I'll send you pics
