  1. The Flamer had a lot of custom touches...

The one recurring theme on this thread that I find REALLY odd, is the idea that any custom rod is automatically slower than a "real hot rod". This is REALLY odd in light of the fact that pretty much any current HAMB "real hot rod" I read about on here is pulling gears in the high threes or higher, and 9/1 compression or less. Go back and re-read the text on the Lil' Coffin article.

This one is interesting and fits the theme of Hot Rods with a Custom feel that I really like lately.
This 32 Ford roadster has its windshield on a nice rake, uses same size white wall tries all around and nice custom hubcaps and a level stance. The 1941 Ford bumpers is another tie with the Custom Car scene, but the removal of the hood sides make it feel like a real Hot Rod again. Very interesting color photo from the Tom Nielsen Collection.

Another one that really fits this theme very good is this 1932 Ford Roadster owned by Bob Hart. Styled after the coachbuilt cars from the 1930's, perhaps inspired by the Brewster Fords or George DuVall and Frank Kurtis Custom creations.

We really need to see some more Custom Car creativity in the cars from the early 1930's. They looks so good that way.

This scan from the December 1948 was made by JimmyB, thanks Jimmy.

And the same photo was used in the Almquest 1947 Speed and Milage Manual only this time the car was cut from its back ground, including the passenger in the car, only his arm was left relaxing on the door top!

  8. Wish I knew whose car that was, and now is. I know it looks totally different today, or it used to.....maybe it's the same now. I seem to recall the car being redone, and maybe again....brought back. Ah hell....who knows?? Looks good still.....that I am sure of.

  9. Love both coupes....seen the black one before....but holy shit (!!!??), that red one is sick !! Whose the hell is that? Anyone have the story ? I lyyyyke it !

Rik's post on page one included an unfinished car and said:
"And a sectioned and chopped four door... not sure if it was ever finished."

If one of you who can find it, please post the link to the HAMBer's build thread on a car in Europe - the chopped and channeled four door. Very similar visual impact!

  12. HHHMMMMM!!!!!
    Cool thread!
I think I might be looking for some even size tires!
It's all good, and the older you are the better it gets, if you have an open mind.
You gotta remember, it's very hard to come up with something new,
but living in the past is very easy!
As long as it can be driven more than looked at!
    I'm wandering today!

This is a 34 , but the same theme. Early custom, not a hot rod. WesCollins1934FordTRJ-vi[1].jpg

Someone should be able to come up with pics of the old Sal Rizzo '32 cabrio from Massachusetts. Built in the 50's. Channeled, clamshell fenders, chromed Packhard windshield, handmade grille. It's been on e-bay recently.Sorry I don't have a photo. Car was also owned at one time by Wallace Packhard,I believe.
