    I found this picture, somewhere;
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1408827803.322322.jpg

    It's so cool, but why all the work?
    I know it makes it lighter, but so does removing them.

  2. Reduced air drag or just bad taste.

  6. Got a good deal on holes, that's where they ended up ! As said above, it was in a fender required race class. I think those holes would have created a lot of turbulence and drag. JW

    I bet it would just whistle by you at speed!

  8. With the hefty engine set back (you can see the top of the steering wheel and roll bar in the rear seat area) and the class designation, it was running as an A/Altered. In most drag racing associations rules, altered classes didn't require fenders.
    I think it looks pretty cool though.

    In the past, just like today, sometimes good ideas, weren't good ideas.

    Then as now some guys do things for laughs, or because someone told them they couldn't. I bet there is an interesting story behind this car.

    It was the 50's, a time when not a lot was known, a time for experimentation, some worked some didn't. Who cares I think it's cool.

    There's the only correct reply. It was a time of little knowledge and a lot of experimentation.

    In a late sixties Rod & Custom there's a rear-angle photo of a '38 or '39 Ford coupe whose entire body, fenders and deck lid were drilled out... and in its shadow you the sun shining through the holes (no trunk floor). Very strange.

    Hmmm...
    Now I'm thinking that this is what happens when you tell your kid: "No! You CAN NOT take the fenders off!"

    Well it sure does grab your attention. I bet there was a lot of chatter about it at the track. Maybe that's why?
