The project im working on is a 1952 ford f1. I have a chance to buy 239 y block thats been rebuilt and it has an edmunds intake with three 2's. The 292 y block I have needs a rebuild. What would you do rebuild the 292 or buy the done 239? The 239 is $1400. thanks

I would go for the rebuild of the 292. There's no substitute for cubic inches!
Besides, you will know for sure what's inside your rebuild.

Go for the 292 especially if its 57 or later.

much easier to get parts for the 292 vs the 239

  5. 3X, The 239 uses different size type cam bearings and cams are not easy to find.
You may have to port the intake manifold to match the 292 heads.

  6. for me I would build my own engine then one that is "done". Because I built it not someone else.

  7. Rebuild the 292. You will know what you have when it's done and the 239 will never satisfy.

Couple problems with the 239. Heads too small, different cam/dizzy gear, etc. Unless it's for a period correct restoration (you wouldn't be here probably), it's worse than a dead end. And $1400 is way too much. Go look at Tim's site for his credentials.

Go with the 292. The 239 is not one of the typical Y-Block family (272, 292, 312). You won't be sorry. ...jack
