Hello from Norway. Some gearhead friends and me will vist Carlisle and Hearshy i October. But we also want to see something else, like a vintage salvage yard somewhere out there.. Museums, and other stuff related to cars up to the seventies. We will be at the aera around NJ. between 1 an 14 oct. Happy for any tips and suggestions. Regards from Arild T and friends.
This one is tiny, but it's really cool and it's not that far a drive from Hershey... http://www.emmr.org/index.htm
I think you might be able to catch the Race of Gentlemen, in Wildwood NJ, same weekend as Carlisle. Do Carlisle on Thursday and Friday, and go to Wildwood on Sat and Sun. Not a long drive, either. Maybe 3 hours? Very nice shore resort town, and should be some nice hot rods, customs and bikes there.
All the above sugestions are good ones, read the HAMB threads on Hershey, study some maps of the swap meet layout. Lots of HAMB members have spaces, I always offer daytime storage for parts people buy so you don't loose time draging parts back to your car. C4J-41-42 are my spots and there are other HAMB people close by. Enjoy your visit! Bob
If you could schedule it, it would be worthwhile to tour the 3dog garage in Boyertown Pa. Alot of outstanding hot rods there.
I also strongly recommend the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing. The Harley Davidson Plant Tour is neat also but you need to check ahead of time if they are doing assembly as they don't usually do that on Fridays and I don't think the tours are available only on the weekends. If you don't go to the Race of Gentlemen the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway is the Friday and Saturday before Hershey and is located south of Harrisburg.
I can vouch for the http://www.emmr.org/index.htm . It is a really cool museum.. The Harley tour in York, PA is also a good place to visit.
