Technical Flathead fuel line part # ??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mr57, Aug 17, 2014.

  1. Can anyone help me with a jobber/supplier name and part number for the rubber line that goes from the sediment bowl to the metal fuel line on a 51 Merc car. This one:

I could order one from a supplier but it would take two-three weeks.....

If you go to NAPA online and put in the information on your car, you will get a list of available parts for your car with numbers. The list is not complete, and is also littered with generic stuff, but this gives you a possibility of having a number. Beyond that you need a parts man who knows how to log on to a "catalog" as they are called by geeks. Your best bet would be to go to another store and start with oldest guy at the counter...

Fastest way would be to find a some nipples and use standard fuel line and hose clamps. Or check in with a place that makes hydraulic hoses for heavy equipment, they may be able to make you one.

Destroy all rubber on existing line. Drill out the tiny passages to take some 1/4" tubing. I think this has the early Ford style compression ferrule type connections, and you may have to stop drilling just above the seating surfaces to maintain proper seal. Get out the soldering iron, tin the tubing, sweat it in. Add some rubber fuel hose and 2 clamps...easy, and allows you to choose some modern rubber that doesn't dissolve in ethanol.

Apparently an old Ford part # available from several suppliers, that's why I posted the search results.
Searched NAPA, they do not have it and may never had had it. Think about it, why stock a factory part like that when most of your customer base will simply replace it with with a rubber hose off the roll and two fittings.

You may have troubles with the today's gas and a replacement line compatibility.

Evco house of hose or dxp hydraulic or a Parker store all have many locations across the US and Canada.
You can usually walk in and have one made while you wait.
