Ok so I have a el camino with a 350 2 bbl carb HEI dist and I have recently put on new headers and true duals on it and it has a popping from the exhaust. I have messed with the carb a little and the popping didn't really go away it got better but didn't go away
I'd bet you have an exhaust leak. I'd double down if popping showed up right after your new headers went on.
It doesent sound like it has and leak at all the exhaust leaked really bad before with the original single exhaust
Oh I'm sorry enlighten me on the rules where can I find the rules at p.s. I'm 16 and don't have a mullet
TRADIONAL (PRE 1965) HOT RODS AND CUSTOMS. We live in the past here. Ryan's time machine had only one setting and we all hopped in. Johnsons in the White House and our boys are fighting on foreign soil. The Mustang looks okay, but we're holding out. The Beatle's are good, but we won't admit it. The Beaach Boys ROCK. CUT YOUR HAIR!
I think he meant 1965, with a 350 that was put in later. Go with it Archer... let's slide some slack, at least its not an blazer 4x4 chassis conversion, or is it??
my money is on the wires..18436572. but we all know that. i prefer to start with rotor pointing at #1 cylinder, tdc. good luck
Is it popping when you let off of the gas ( deceleration) ? If so like Vicky stated I'm betting its an exhaust leak.
I'm using standard AC delco plugs and yes it mostly back fireds when you let off the gas but it also does it some times when your sill in the gas
Lots of things to look at, as 31Vicky said exhaust leak, also the 5 and 7 plug wire crossed is something to watch for, I have been at this nearly 45 years and still cross them on occasion. Look for a loose wire in your ignition circuit as well, maybe coming off the switch or where is connects to the distributer, a momentary laps in zot to the dizzy will cause a back fire. I don't care if you need a hair cut or not by the way, be yourself first and let the chips fall where they may.
It sounds to me that you need to richen the fuel mix to compensate for the more efficient exhaust system (lean mis fire some call that). You might also advance the timing a hair and see what that does just for kicks
Let us know what you find out. Part of the reason we all help is to learn. That's hard to do when the person doesn't report back just "what" fixed the problem.
