It seems that the cancelation of Speedweek may have some of the participants of the HAMB Drags arrive earlier than usual. I am going to start a posting of a list of possible things to do in the area, should you arrive early. I will just add stuff as I think of it. Post here or PM (conversation me) if you have questions. Starbird Museum and Customizer Hall of Fame http://www.darrylstarbird.com/museum.htm Take a drive on route 66 Spend a night at a historic Boots motel on route 66 http://bootsmotel.homestead.com/ Watch a movie at the 66 Drive in Theatre Go to Red Oak II http://www.redoakiimissouri.com/index/index.html Springfield swap meet http://ozarksantiqueautoclub.com/Swap Meet.aspx Eat at the Undercliff http://undercliffgrill.com/ or at Big R's http://www.bigrsbbq.com/ (attention Bob K this is the pie place) visit Lost N in the 50's Museum and sales http://www.lostnthe50sclassiccars.com/ it is free and about 12 miles south of the host hotel. we are planning on doing starbirds either wed or thrusday, post up if your interested , we maybe able to get a group disc, also have a cool grill bar down on the water close by to grab lunch. ill be around if any outta towners need help also.
A lot of this stuff is not car related but depending on what your interest are, you may find something to do. Har-ber Village is a good second stop if you go to Starbirds http://www.har-bervillage.com/ Big Brutus is close to MOKAN http://www.bigbrutus.org/ Not far away in Northwest Arkansas Crystal Bridges museum of American Art http://crystalbridges.org/ (home of Rosie the Riveter) There is also the National Military Park of the Civil War at Pea Ridge http://www.nps.gov/peri/index.htm Of course a side trip to Tulsa would really give you lots of things to do. One of my favorite places is Woolaroc near Bartlesville or Dewey, Ok https://www.woolaroc.org/ John
This one deserves a post of its own. I like ice cream. My wife and I travel a lot and when we travel we search out the best local ice cream. In all my travels, this is my favorite, and it is so close to home and not far from the host hotel. Just the next exit west on I 44 and south. It is made fresh daily from an old family business recipe. https://www.facebook.com/AndersonsIceCream (a good part of the reason I have Dunlops disease or Dickey Do disease) And the ice cream shop is located in the same building as this place http://www.candyhouse.net/ John
Thanks for this….We have a room at Boots for the weekend and planned to hit 66 Drive in….See y'all in a few.
